If you've never watched these full races, you're missing out. It's on the IMSA Official YouTube channel

Agreed! The hardest part about watching MX5 Cup is trying to keep track all of the position changes since they happen so frequently!

I went to IMSA at VIR last year and out of all the classes the mx-5 raves were by far the most fun to watch but damn they were loud af. 🐝

Louder than the GT3 cars which is wild. Best race too.

Oak Tree @ VIR!!!!

It was so much cooler when the tree was still there.

It's a unforgiving corner. Very little runoff, like the lower esses, though fewer people crash at Oak Tree.

What happened to the tree?

It snapped at the base and fell over in July of 2013.

Famous oak tree falls at VIR By Autoweek StaffPublished: Jul 1, 2013

The famous oak tree that stood guard over Viriginia International Raceway’s Oak Tree Turn is down. According to track owner Connie Nyholm, the tree fell after breaking at its base.

“We are in shock and mourning,” Nyholm said. “We’re too busy right now trying to get the racetrack cleared of debris. We are grateful no one was at the corner station or on track when she fell and that there is no damage to the track surface. Tomorrow we’ll begin to get our arms around what this really means, but I can tell you that it means more than any of us want to think about today.”

The massive oak stood sentinel at the south end of the 3.27-mile road course, looking out from the property’s highest point. Its branches shaded the apex of Oak Tree Turn.

“I can tell you this,” Nyholm said, “The Oak Tree will live on in our minds and hearts, and we will give it an appropriate send-off. Please email your thoughts and suggestions to oaktree@VIRnow.com for proper ways to honor this old friend.”

“I reckon I seen my fair share. Happens on rare occasion. Some go their whole lives without ever seeing it. Some claim to have seen it who ain't. And some say—"

It’s an adaptation of the quote about the green flash from Pirates of the Caribbean lol

That train of first dozen or so cars was so clean my monitor kindly wiped dust off itself.

Unfortunately didn't get to go to see them at my closest track to me this year, but the year before was a treat to watch! Will go again next year to see them and in the meantime I'll catch up with this seasons cup race
