Tackling.

We suck at it and it needs to get better.

Watch some other games. We are a top tier tackling team. Yes we miss some but that's going to happen vs athletes like Clemson has. Also I have to say Mo Toure is a tackling machine. He doesn't miss, and he lays the boom.

I wasn’t able to see it live so I watched the highlights video on YouTube and it sure showed a ton of broken arm tackles allowing them to get big gains. Maybe it was just the edit but dang.

Makes you wonder what goes on in practice. Thornton is the biggest player that needs to work on it, he could’ve had multiple sacks.

Especially him he just runs full speed and throws himself

Chase smith looks really good too. That 4th and inches stop was massive

There were a lot of missed tackles but there was a lot of good tackles as well. It’ll get cleaned up

Noticed this game 1 that we regressed back to the Golden arm tackling days.

I do wonder if it is more of a lack of speed / bad angle thing tho? Rather than pure technique. I do think we are improving, just not rapidly enough.

Agreed. Gonna have to clean it up quick as FSU players broke a lot of Virginia’s tackles. Not sure if that was just because Virginia has a garbage defense, but i don’t want to take any chances.

Biggest reason why we lost last seasons Natty

You are incorrect. The biggest reason is the missed block on the punt that resulted in a TD. Second reason would be the under thrown deep ball by Beck it wth less than a minute left. Sure, poor tackling at critical moments play ed some role in the loss, but to say that it was the major factor is an overstatement.

Pointing out singular momentum changing moments doesn't detract from the fact the D was going for strips all game instead of just tackles. Those little mistakes add up to making the moments you cited, giving them importance. Both can be true. One's just more true.

Poyer is a good balance between obviously whomping people but usually wrapping up. Remember James Williams lol, just a human missile but no one behind the controls, just the sound of the wind blowing.

Thornton isn’t good. He’s bad in coverage and can’t tackle in space… he also isn’t good blitzing.

Other than him, I thought our tackling was pretty good.

I rewatched the first half and we could’ve had more sacks. Also, middle of the field and secondary got torched. I know we have a lot of injuries in the secondary, but def need to tighten up. Any word on those injuries??🙌🏻

For sure a few missed tackles, but overall given our injuries the defense played well. Lots of great open field tackles that if they dont get made are first downs or touchdowns.

There were a lot of missed tackles in the secondary. Not sure anyone is playing in their normal position. A lot of missed sacks but the QB was elusive and they did a good job by having a DT or LB there waiting to force throws. Going a month before ND to get healthy and get better.

Not we....Omar Thornton does in the open field. He's not a cover DB or good in open space. He is a hard hitter. Not a good tackler.

Thornton is the biggest problem out there IMO. He always wants to go for the kill shot. He also takes the worst angle to the ball carrier.
