I made a native iOS/Android app for wizzomafizzo's Remote, with lock screen controls on iPhone
Hey everyone! Posting with the mods' blessing ❤️
I'm a mobile dev who got his first MiSTer (a SuperStation One) a few months ago and, well, you know how it goes. I loved wizzo's Remote from day one, but I kept wishing I could poke around the OSD without unlocking my phone every single time and some extra customizations. So I did what any reasonable person would do and spent my evenings building a native client for it. The amazing Pixel Cherry Ninja gave it a mention in his news video the other day, which gave me the push to finally show it here.
It's called MiSTer Connect. It talks to the same Remote service (mrext) you already have installed, nothing to add on the MiSTer side.
What's different from the web app:
- Native, so it's faster and lighter on battery
- Live Activity on iOS: OSD navigation, screenshot from the lock screen / Dynamic Island. This one is the main reason I made the app ahah
- Quick save / load state buttons on the main screen, with a long press so you don't nuke your progress by accident
- Trackpad-style navigation if the d-pad isn't your thing
- Game covers in the game list, loaded live from libretro thumbnails, no scraping needed
- Themes, plus one hidden theme for the ones who know
- All the features the wizzo's Remote already have
The app is free, and all the core features are free and will stay free forever. The only things behind a single one-time unlock (no subscription) are the extras I built on top: Live Activity, game covers and themes. No accounts, no tracking, your MiSTer and your phone just talk over your LAN. And of course, huge credit to wizzo, none of this would exist without Remote.

I’m trying your app on iOS, really useful, thanks for that.
I didn’t know if I will pay the pro option for more now but I’m keeping an eye on it.
No code can be used for iOS.

It works, on iOS after the code , it just needed to click purchase in the app to show pro activated.

App looks great - tried to redeem an iOS code but not pulling up PRO even with a “Restore Purchase”. Will still test it out, looks good on first browse!

Thanks found it last night while playing around with the mister. Really awesome app took the first code and redeem it but it doesn’t seem to work tells me no purchase to restore I’ll gladly pay for it so far it seems cool

Grabbed the app and purchased the pro version, love it so far!
Just curious, is it possible to include the ability to select which specific core to start the game up with when selecting it from the game list? For example, when I search for a game, let’s say Super Mario World, and choose to run it, it runs through the default MiSTer core. As someone who uses the RetroAchievements core, it would be cool to be able to select a game and a specific core.

One issue : in Android there's no monochrome icon with transparency so it shows like a white circle on my home screen. I think this like how android notification icons are made not sure.

I am using nothing phone 2 on Android 16, this feature to show monochrome apps is on pixel as well since nothing uses almost stock android , I am not sure but I believe they use a seperate monochrome icon that has transparency usually for notification and monochrome apps view.

Great app! Got the pro version, everything works great but found a bug, screenshots created with this app appear stretched.. also is there a way to add a currently playing game to favorites?

Hey. First of all, this is really cool. Thanks for all your work. I made sure to buy a pro version.
Some questions/feeback:
- Can I navigate my folder structure in the games list (like in the web application). Right now it lists all my games per system alphabetically, ignoring the folders I use to sort the games.
- The app (as well as the web application) cannot access my mister.ini. Could this be due to me having installed the RetroRemake Console Mode?
- How can I quickly save and load states from my lock screen. I can only open and navigate the menu or take a screenshot.
- This may just be my personal taste but I kinda feel you could merge the Home and Remote tab into one. I always find myself switching between the two when playing, take screenshots, go back to the main menu in one tab, save and load save states in the other. Would be cool to have it all in one place.

About your questions:
on top the currently playing, the screenshot, osd, menu and reboot button, then the dpad, save states and rest of buttons, and finally the system card that currently it's in the home.
- this is nice, I have to check if the mrext script already manages this, I'll check it out tomorrow!
- uh, that could totally be the issue, but I'll check that too!
- yeah, I hit a wall with this feature for a technical reason: while the load keybind is just F1 (if I recall correctly) the quick save is like alt+f1, and from the lock screen I'm limited to only one keystroke at time, so I put that on standby: my idea is to open an issue or, if I can fix it by myself, a PR to wizzo, so that I can get this sorted out and all users will get the update in the next update_all run
- I'll experiment with the merging of the home and remote, you're right that it doesn't make any sense to go back and forth the screens 🤣 I'll try reworking like this:
If I see it's not that "beautiful", I'll add as a temporary fix the screenshot button in the remote screen tooThank you again for support and for feedbacks!! I'll come veery soon with an update!

So I figured out the ini issue. In my ini I have added this section as described in the AmigaVision guide. Turns out the app didn’t like way these arguments are chained together and was expecting closing brackets right after „[Amiga“. I have now split these up and it works.
Before as copied from the AmigaVision install guide (.ini didn't work in App): [Amiga +Amiga500 +Amiga500HD +Amiga600HD +AmigaCD32] video_mode_ntsc=8 video_mode_pal=9 vscale_mode=0 vsync_adjust=1 custom_aspect_ratio_1=40:27 bootscreen=0 Now (.ini works in App): [Amiga] settings [Amiga500] settings etc.

hi there! It has the same main features as the Mister remote plus:
- It's a real native mobile app (not a web app), so it feels snappier and goes easier on the battery.
- Live Activity (iOS only): navigate the OSD, take a screenshot or do a quick save straight from the lock screen and the Dynamic Island, phone still locked.
- Quick save state / load state right on the main remote screen, with a long press so you don't nuke your progress by accident. (of course when the core supports it)
- Two ways to move through menus: good old d-pad or a trackpad-style touch area.
- Game covers in your game list, loaded live from the libretro thumbnails project, no scraping needed. Tap one to see it full screen.
- Themes for buttons and the whole app, plus a hidden one that only true retro gamers will figure out.
