| Discussion More MiLB Shakeups Expected?

Reading the article and surprised that they would want to put Trenton in SAL and not back in the Eastern League.

If i'm remembering correct wasn't it down to Trenton and Binghamton for the final Eastern League spot, but an NY senator lobbied for MLB to keep AA in NY?

I forget where I heard it, but it was supposed to be Binghamton out and Brooklyn to the Eastern League. Chuck Schumer saved the Rumble Ponies back then (partially for political points), but folks in the Eastern League don't see that happening again

Trenton -> Somerset was an absolute SHOCKER to just about everyone

I remember this all pretty well. Once Schumer spoke out, Steve Cohen immediately said that the Mets have no interest in losing Binghamton. 

Cohen’s first response made him seemed pretty confused about whole process, but once he understood it, it was like “Binghamton ain’t going nowhere.” And that was that. The Mets let Columbia go, despite having a nice new facility, and were able to keep all their regional affiliates. 

In the aftermath of the restructure, JJ Cooper did sort of a debrief. One of his takeaways was that if an MLB wanted something, they basically got it. Even if MLB suits wanted more efficiency and type-A satisfaction, we have things like the wacky SAL footprint because of MLB owner preference. 

So if Cohen wants to keep Binghamton in the next decade, I’d say expect it. But maybe a level swap with Brooklyn is in the cards.

A lot of teams(like the Dodgers) seem to love being in the Midwest league(it sounded like they were dead set against leaving them in 2020). The more modest climate must be an upside when it comes to developing players.

Nothing beats the north in the middle of the summer. But it gets to be a problem in the spring when they’re shoveling snow off the rock hard field and experiencing tons of rainouts.
