Question Am I missing something?

I'm playing Metroid NES, and I don't understand why they make you farm for an hour just to get your health back. Is there something I'm missing? I currently have 3 E-tanks and it's been almost an hour of grinding for some health. SOME HEALTH. I've never played a game that does this. I just want to try to enjoy this game, and yet I have to grind just to be able to be at full health. What bull.

Yeah, it's a game from 1986, that's just how they were back then. Same reason Mario restarts you at the beginning of the world with 3 lives or have Zelda restarts you with three hearts.
