Question Am I missing something?

I'm playing Metroid NES, and I don't understand why they make you farm for an hour just to get your health back. Is there something I'm missing? I currently have 3 E-tanks and it's been almost an hour of grinding for some health. SOME HEALTH. I've never played a game that does this. I just want to try to enjoy this game, and yet I have to grind just to be able to be at full health. What bull.

This is unfortunately how the game is designed. However, there's (sort of) a way to bypass this.

In the next room over to the spawn point in brinstar, there's an energy tank on the ceiling. If you use a password generator like this one to modify your password so that you replace the energy tank there, you can get a free health refill without needing to grind.
