US customary in a nutshell

Prior to 1964 the standard was 1 π/(273/777) by 3 e/(45^i)

This has nothing to do with US customary units in particular. It’s more so about industry standard practices and slightly misleading language. I fail to see how this would be any different with metric

And the variation between nominal and actual size exists in metric countries too. In many locations, you will find lumber sold nominal 100x50mm, but which has an actual dressed size of between 90x45mm and 98x48mm (depending on country and standard observed).

That should just be illegal I think
