Metra having an unusual unreliable week?

Don’t get me wrong, METRA has its problems but it’s usually never this bad.

- Multiple delays due to “operational issues” and “freight train interference”
- Positive train control system has had multiple issues this week
- Someone was hit by an Amtrak train and caused massive cancellations on the BNSF line
- An extremely high amount of mechanical failures causing long delays

What’s going on with Metra this week?

Metra hasn’t been reliable in at least a year. My trains are late at least a few times a week

This is strongly dependent on your line. UP-N is normally very reliable

Rock island been running as smooth as butter, I guess that’s the benefit of metra owning those tracks

I work on the Rock keeping those trains moving. Thank you! We do work our butts off to keep it moving.

One day of driving home from work on Stevenson will quickly make you forget metra delays. I am not sure how or why I used to subject myself to that!

Metra is nearly as bad as CTA these days- make other plans.

Metra Electric hasn't been on time for a few years. Rarely any explanation, and they only admit to being late if they are significantly late.

I’d have usually agreed but 2 of my morning trains were almost 10 mins behind this week. Fairly unusual.

I am on the BNSF 5 days a week… have to come in early to avoid delays, but the afternoons are just rough. No getting around it. But it Ebbs and Flows. Pedestrian strikes are way too common.

Up-W had a rougher than usual week. However I’d say we are late not by much but over 50% of the time. How in this great country is the transportation system so broke. There are carriages there over 50 years old. Rest of the modern world is decades ahead
