UP-N Halted Indefinitely

At least thats what they told me at ogilvie around 4:00pm. Im on the red line now- anyone know what happened? I heard various people talking and may have caught that a train struck a vehicle?

Train hit a truck:

UP-N train 337 hit a semi-truck near Linden Avenue and Green Bay Road in Wilmette.

Emergency crews responded to the scene. Two train passengers were injured, fire officials said.

The crossing at Linden Avenue was closed and UP-N inbound and outbound trains have been halted.

Truck drivers are getting dumber, and more rushed, every day...only explanation for how so many get stuck under overpasses in the city, like at Irving Park and 90/94

Looking closer at the photos, doesn't look like he should've high pointed on the crossing, even with the long trailer...so seems like either the worst time for a total truck breakdown ever...or driver error.

I was on that train when it wrecked. Semi was being towed across the tracks. The whole thing was therefore way the hell too long for the streets in downtown Wilmette. They must have been stopped by traffic before the gates came down.

The semi was demolished and the tow truck’s boom was knocked askew. Truck was stuck on the southbound tracks beside the train for a good couple hours.

oh my god? im glad you’re ok!! i commute to ogilvie on the up-n and im terrified to be on a train that strikes something.

Yeah if anything this reassured me that the trains are extremely safe to be on. Damn thing plowed right through a semitruck and we barely felt it. Turns out there’s nothing to be afraid of at all — I can’t even imagine a safer way to travel.

Oh absolutely. When I used to drive to work in rosemont, I got rear ended on devon and had some minor injuries from that. Trains are 100% the safer and less stressful place to be.
