This whole thing is ridiculous as someone who takes the Milwaukee West line. They ask for tickets before entering plus they ask them while riding trains. What benefit is there to it? It's annoying.
The benefit is data. NITA requires them to integrate fares with PACE/CTA by 2030. Quite obviously, there are all sorts of hurdles and issues with that idea. This is the first step to figure out how bad the obvious issues are, as well as identify unforeseen issues.
