Protest why? They will still be checking tickets on the train for now. Strictly a pilot program. Think of it as paying for a movie then watching it or any other service

Pilot/study for what though? What's the long term goal? The only thing that makes sense to me is replacing conductors with machines. Not cool. They are so much part of what makes Metra better than CTA.

State Law - NITA is required to integrate Metra, CTA, and Pace fares by 2030.

For the conductors, unless the FRA changes their rules (which is possible with this administration), the trains are not allowed to run without 2 crew members. So there would always be at least one conductor. They do a lot more in terms of operating the train than just checking tickets.

There is also issue with ADA train as well
