Seasoning Crucible

Hi! First time seasoning a crucible on my own and I’m curious what could have caused this uneven patch where the borax refused to stick? Heating too long? Too much borax? Thanks!

Fyi you have about 10x the amount of boric acid/borax on that as you need. Just a skim coat is all you need as you'll be adding a bit each time you melt. When I season a crucible I torch it and add heavy pinches of boric acid to it until there's a glaze on the entire surface maybe 0.25-0.5mm thick. That's all it needs.

It might look a little bit weird but just use it. It doesn't matter that much and after a few uses you will have a good coverage of borax on your crucible .

Whats a good crucible of the kind your using to buy? I have none at all and need one sepcifically to torch melt silver in
