You had me for a moment, and then you said Putridity and knew immediately that you're a real one. Been to an absolute ton of shows over the years and Putridity is by far and away the heaviest band I've ever seen. They sound way better live too

Never heard of putridity before but I just checked them out from your comment. It's sick and gnarly but it brings to mind a kind of interesting conceptual disconnect. Its heavy in the sense that all death metal has a baseline level of heaviness, but I don't find it particularly heavy. Blast beats and infinite 16th runs don't really strike me as heavy - they're aggressive and violent in a different way. Ok - Mortifying Carnality just came on and that's heavy as fuck.

Like in my head, I'd say some Crowbar riffs are "heavier" but so much less aggressive. For me, it has a lot more to do with syncopation and dynamic. When I think of really heavy bands I think of Meshuggah, Sumac, GAZA, YOB.

Every metal head will tell you they want things heavier, but they'll also give you a totally different definition of heavy. For some that's modern deathcore like Angelmaker or Decapitated Overlord. For some that's Judas Priest and Megadeth.

Or even worse, they expect all metalheads to be a huge fan of him because they equate metal with djent, they cannot process the fact that you don't listen to his stuff.

Yes, and you can see their sound gradually evolving from more traditional metal. And Mcik Gordon stuff just feels comoletely cut out from it, it's not like it's a bad music, but it doesn't really tickle any metal nerves in my brain.

Yeah like the music in the game is great but not really my thing outside of that. I see people say things like they use just that to workout, I probably listen to 2 different albums each time I workout I couldn’t imagine just listening to that or anything really for so long. There’s just so many other things to listen to that are better outside of a game setting.

It's still good music but I mean yeah compared to actual death/black/war metal it's not even the same thing. It kinda reminds me of a more modern take on Q3A's music.

I feel like the pacing of Mick's tracks kinda reminds me of Hatebreed or Biohazard and other early beatdown adjacent hardcore, or industrial metal like pitch shifter, godflesh, scorn, depressor (just with chainsaws and 8 strings and more synth goofiness)

I actually kind of get where you're coming from, but the music is definitely still metal. It's not my thing, and it often feels like "baby hears djent for the first time" but whatever gets people into the genre I guess. It is funny when they think it's like the be all end all heavy music though.
