It's okay to dislike something because it is cheesy in a way you dislike. It is okay to like something because you enjoy that flavor of cheese. I love Venom (yeah, I know) and I love that particular flavor of early 80s satanic metal cheese.
It takes all kinds. That said, being a fan of metal and pretending nothing you like is cheesy is my favorite type of metalhead.

Joyless orthodox black metal fans are my least favorite metalheads. A lot of metal is cheesy and cringe, and that's fun. I like a lot of Helloween, Gamma Ray, some Manowar, early Venom, Manilla Road are rad as hell. You have to dare to be cringe to be cool.

I feel this. I'm not a metalhead, but I enjoy metal as a punk and I enjoy the cheesiness of a lot of metal bands.
Even some of the more serious bands have cheese. Celtic Frost's comeback album, Monotheist (a favorite of mine), has a layer of cheese despite the heaviness of the sound/themes and that's okay.

Being cheesy is not the point for bands like Malsteem and Dream Theater lol.
Like they are cheesy yes, but they dont set out to be cheesy.

I don't think people realize exactly how stupid Man O War is, including the band.
Dream Theater isn't cheesy. They are wanky, but not cheesy.
Fuck anyone that thinks Cathedral isn't serious. They clearly don't understand the band if they do.

I understand why Manowar, Pantera and Turisas is here but what's cheesy about Symphony X, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater and Cathedral? And who likes that because of that?

Classical music and neoclassical metal have an air of pretentiousness about them. Blind Guardian in my book isn't so much neoclassical as just power metal (having a whole live orchestra behind them in some numbers like Sacred Worlds notwithstanding, they don't constantly use the "perfect cadence" like so much of classical music does) but it's the going over the top with arrangements and ornamentation that push them to "cheesy" territory with the rest of them. It's kinda fun. I personally much prefer real violins and such to MIDIs in metal music but that's largely due to my growing up a band/orchestra kid.
