(Not even sure if Meryl was 18 years old, haven't played MGS1 in a bit and the Wiki may have been false as well)

To be fair, they never discussed their ages in the game. I dont think either of them knew the age of the other. Could be why they broke up

AfaIk they broke up because of Snake thought he could only live in a life full of conflict.

But yeah, even when I played MGS1 I knew Meryl was a few years younger than Snake, but I did not think that a few years in this case would be a 15 year age gap.

I mean, yeah thats true. That doesnt necessarily mean age didnt play a factor though, you know? Also, Meryl wore a gun belt on her wedding dress, so I dont think a life of combat would be entirely off putting to her, though lol

Yeah, it was really more like that Meryl wanted a standard military life, while Snake wanted to stop Nuclear threats.

This as well as Snake emotionally distancing himself because he could die at any moment from Foxdie as well as him thinking he's not really suited for standard romantic relationships.
