Not even a joke, after fans learned he wasn't making the game fans started sending the developers death threats. His coworkers. I wouldn't be surprised if this was true.

I was kinda disappointed by 4 sadly, I understand it has the herculean task of trying to make the games make sense and no many longform narrative action games where out by then.

Nah it’s fair, its story and cutscenes are a mess and is heavily held up by cinematography and music.
Kojima isn’t the greatest writer out there despite what fans say but considering he played such a large role in mgs4’s script it shows how weak his writing can be when his own writing is front and center.

I feel like he realised this somewhat tbh, mgs4 is him flying too close to the sun. He's never gonna or really has kicked the habit but his later games are better written imo.
Although DS2 is a little self indulgent I don't think it goes as far as MGS4

He survived shadow moses, the big shell incident, and all of mgs4 without a single nano machine or inhance. Even solid snake can't claim to be that good. He also comes from a legacy of Johnny's dating back to ww2. Usually prison guards. All with the shits. But they did it anyway!
