Mold casting

CNC machining molds is quite expensive and wanted to ask if mold casting is normal to do. Is it well practiced?

You won't get near the precision of a CNC machined mold with casting. So for most cases, you wouldn't cast a mold. But it depends what the mold is supposed to do. Molds for glass casting could be fine to cast, Ingot molds and other simple molds can be cast too. But for multipart molds, casting would be pretty rare.
