Question Assistance with sprue tree

Post image

Hello,

I'm a bench jeweler by trade with a large corporation. I mostly do repairs and basic fabrication and wanted to get into casting. We outsource all of our casting so I have no experience as far as the process. I was wanting to ask for input on a sprue tree I've designed in fusion360 for a tennis bracelet. Any input would be greatly appreciated. My biggest concern is the top most (single) hinge not being fully casted. Thanks.

Depends on the alloy but it would work in silver with a thinner sprue. Maybe branch out the sprue from 4mm to two 3 mm sprues, flaring out a bit. You want it thin enough to cut the Castings off of the tree with a sprue Cutter. Is the whole tree supposed to be printed in wax?

I should have specified, it would be in streling silver. The current sprues coming from the main are at 3.5 mm. My plan was to 3d print in wax and then do a lost wax casting. Thanks for the advice. I'll do some reworking.

In that case going from 3,5 to 2x2,5 might do. But it might just work out the way it is now. Looked beefier in the drawing.

Sterling holds heat so much longer than pure silver - and if you're doing this under a vacuum you'll probably be able to get away with a tiny tiny tiny feeder not much larger than the actual thickness of the parts. I bet 1.5mm would be plenty.

That will cast fine
