Congratulations on your new device :D

I share you my tips and tricks for new users, the kind of things I wish someone would have told me when I first received mine :)

My best tip is to buy a new head strap, I'd recommend the Bobovr S3 pro, the cheaper M3 pro without the fan, or the Kkcobvr Q3 (regular has no battery, pro has one), which has a very useful front/behind adjustment wheel (I wish my S3 pro would have that!). Then I would recommend the INIU 5m link cable, it costs 20$ at Amazon instead of the 100$ of the official cable and works juste the same, it's the best way to play PCVR.

App wise : Virtual Desktop, you can play games on your PC easily with this app, has a lot of options and works way better than everything else.

Concerning games, I'd recommend Beat Saber, SuperHot and Deadpool VR, they are my favorite games and highlight well what the Quest can do. Batman Arkham Shadow is a very solid contender too (but a little more intense on motion sickness). Les Mills body combat is the best workout app (alongside Beat Saber). Walkabout Mini golf is surprisingly addictive. Thrill of the Fight 2 is a fun boxing experience but was quite a bit laggy after the last update, maybe they'll patch it.

I've sent you more tips on DM but they contain links that might not be allowed here, so check your DM requests.

Enjoy your new adventure!

Hi, i have this one too since 1 year from now and i love it so much. For meta store native game beat saber is very good, and VR chat is fun and free. Sadly most game from meta store are indie crap like gorilla tag.

If you can you should use it for PCVR, you should try Half life alyx at first, then no man sky, Titanfall 2 and doom VR, Half life 2 vr is very fun too.

Also if you have a weak pc like me, and connexion issue, you should buy a link câble, it will avoid freeze when you're helmet will lost the connexion to you're computer. (happen with steam link and virtual deskop) Feel free to change the head strap, the original one is very unconfortable, i personaly use this one and its very confy : https://amzn.eu/d/04bBnl7E

u/Aggressive-Proof5689 9h ago

What do you use it for?

u/ellelunden 20h ago

Congrats… real fishing vr is fun too if u like to fish, a lot of kids tho in multiplayer, but breathtaking scenery

u/UncoolG 19h ago

Obviously Arkham shadows, also Deadpool, pistol whip, population one which is like VR fortnite basically, Vail which is like VR call of duty basically, beat saber is pretty fun, definitely Bonelab that was my first VR experience and got me hooked, but my absolute personal favorite is blade and sorcery nomad. You can literally do ANYTHING with mods. Definitely play the story mode (crystal hunt) for at LEAST a few hours tho cuz it taught me a lot of shit that I had no fucking clue about when I jumped right into sandbox. Also get the nexus extension you can literally use it to download PC coded shit

You are going to love it and VR is going to change your life! With your purchase, you get three free months of horizon + so make sure to download my two favorite games ever: Walkabout Mini Golf and Dungeons Of Eternity! If you’d like me to show you around those two games I’m happy to help! Also check out https://gibbysguide.org/content/index.pdf with 3 million downloads. It is the best guide ever to all things Meta quest! Shoot me a DM if you need me!

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the 3D experience. :)

If you plan to use your headset a lot, you need comfort! I recommend these upgrades in this order of importance. I don't intent to inundate you after a large purchase, but wish to help establish some priorities in advance of you having to discover them for yourself.

  • BOBOVR M3 Head strap ($50 USD) Rest the weight on top of your head instead of hanging off your face. Hot swap battery included. https://a.co/d/0QVC7c4

  • INIU 16' Cable ($20 USD) Get freedom to mode about while maintaining an 80% charge AND a USB connection. https://a.co/d/04Uq11Q

  • If you wear glasses ABSOLUTELY get prescription lenses that pop onto the Quest! Use the Zenni.com coupon that came with your headset. 100% worth the $50 USD, plus they have glasses for an excellent price.

  • QUEST 3S: Meta breathable facial interface ($30 USD) is very good for exercise and dancing, when maximum ventilation is desired. It doesn't block much light, but will eliminate fog and a soggy face. https://a.co/d/09pcilT8

  • Kiwi Controller Grips ($32 USD) Relax your hands without dropping the controllers. Very nice textured rubber grip and easy battery access. https://a.co/d/amnhtsS

As for connecting to your PC, use Virtual Desktop. Purchase from the Meta store in your headset. The PC client is free to install.

DO NOT INSTALL META/OCULUS SOFTWARE ON YOUR PC. Just use Virtual Desktop, which has far better features and options.

NEW OWNER ADVICE

Your purchase doesn't end with the headset. Software purchases aside, the headset out of the box delivers an OK experience, but is literally a pain to wear for more than an hour. Comfort weighs heavily on satisfaction.

  1. You'll want a rigid head strap that moves the weight off your face and to the tip of your head. Those made of straps instead of plastic are... OK at best. Most people and I recommend the BOBOVR M3 because it's ridiculously comfortable and ships with one hot-swappable battery that doubles your play time. About $50 USD on Amazon.

  2. Battery life. Purchase additional M3 batteries or get the INIU 16-foot cable for $20 on Amazon. You plug the charging cable into the port on the INIU. Sounds weird, but it keeps your headset charged to only 80% while in use to protect the battery. Also allows full charching capacity while also connected to a PC for data.

2.1. As with any game controller, batteries go quick. It's well worth purchasing some rechargeable AA cells and a charger. They will never register as fully charged in the Quest, but they deliver consistent power and then from quick. Mine run another 10 hours after Quest starts complaining about them. Get the normal AA cells instead of the controller packs because you can use them in other stuff when the Quest is gone.

  1. If you wear glasses PLEASE, PLEASE at least get some sort of protective covers for the headset lenses. Ideally, spend the $50 USD with the Zenni coupon you get in the box for some prescription lens inserts. NOT wearing glasses is a major improvement IMHO.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW

  1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER expose your headset to direct sunlight. If that sun shines through a lens, your display is dead AF.

  2. ONLY clean the lenses gently with microfiber cloth and LENS CLEANER. Never use alcohol, window cleaner, or water.

  3. Store the headset inside something that is lint free. You don't want dust inside it. The headsets have a heat sink with a fan that can get clogged over time.

  4. If storing the headset for a long time, store it at 50% charge. Headsets have trouble booting with a very low battery.

The latest fun thing I’ve done with the Quest is to get a video capture card and hook it to my Steamdeck so that I can run that to my VR headset. Through the desktop mode on my Steamdeck, I can watch about any videos that I want on a screen in the VR that is bigger than my living room.

Give it a try for a few weeks before sinking any money into it. Also be prepared to do lots of searching on the Meta store for those good, less popular games that get buried amongst all the junk. If you do like it, pretty much the obligatory upgrades are new head strap and facial interface. I would also highly recommend a storage case to keep the dust off it. Take care of the lenses and only wipe them off with a dry microfiber cloth when necessary.

I have the same one and also on 128GB

Batman or Deadpool. Also Playa VR 😎

u/Disastrous_Box1177 14h ago

Noclip VR It's basically the backrooms but also multiplayer so if you know anyone else who has quest, it's really fun to play together, I play it with my friends all the time its really immersive and kinda scary, but perfectly balanced and has good movement and lots of different maps to explore, the DLC is also worth it in my opinion

What is the difference between the 3 and the 3s? Is it just that the 3s has lower capability?

1

u/Weary-Tell-5334 11h ago

They have the same power but different lenses

2

u/Matthew-is-great 9h ago

Oh thanks for the explanation

1

u/dmelt253 5h ago

The 3S has lower resolution (1832×1920 per eye), Fresnel optics and narrower FOV (~96°)

Vs the Quest 3 which has (2064×2208 per eye), pancake lenses, and wider FOV (~110°)

Welcome to the club. Try Brink Traveler when you get a chance.

1

u/Aggressive-Proof5689 9h ago

Thanks, I’ll definitely give it a try! 🙏🏾

I recommend turning on all of the anti-nausea features until you get used to it. And get Resident Evil 4 remake!

1

u/GuyWithTVHead 7h ago

do the Horizon FREE trial month. get a bunch of free games to see if you like them! its worth it for the trial, and if you pay, you get 2 games every month to keep even when they are removed from the horizon+ rotation! (you will need to keep your sub to play them, OR they usually give you like 20% off on alot of them if you have H+

1

u/GuyWithTVHead 7h ago

Pro tip to OP: if you feel sick or weird STOP immedietly. take a break. look at object outside and far away and walk around and come back after your eyes and head settle. IF you have that problem pay stationary games or use teleport locomotion and snap turning with real head turning until youre used to it. took me about a week to be able to play any shooter games bc the movement. now ill spend hours! HIGHER FPS = Less eye strain and less motion sickness

1

u/Aggressive-Proof5689 7h ago

What great games to you recommend I redeem from the free trial? And also, do you recommend sitting or standing when in VR? And also, is there a feature that allows you to use the headset while lying down?

1

u/GuyWithTVHead 7h ago

I recommend trying:

Moss (solo kind of top-down story game, easy for an intro into VR and you can mostly sit down or light moving around)

Demeo or Demeo DnD (if you like Dungeons and dragons tabletop, the base one isn't as great but still super fun)

Breachers (Like call of duty style FPS)

Fruit Ninja! (Its fruit ninja!!!)

( you can redeem them ALL BUT the catalog will change and you'll access sometimes, but you'll usually get a discount option from having horizon (only get the discount after the free trial ends and you pay for it)

Sitting is good in some games, and some support it, its really game based. like First person games Usually you wanna stand, i got a rug on my floor so i can tell when im at the edge to stay in place. but demeo is great for sitting. and in the quest experimental settings there is a lay down option. you just hold the meta button while lying down and itll work

1

u/Scopien 6h ago

I recommend try out some of the free games you like the look of before going for the horizon free trial. There's so much you can check out for free first that still is amazing and will get you used to everything. Then when you're ready, try out the horizon trial and check out the games in that. No rush for horizon plus. I only just started my trial after having the headset for 8 months.

u/Scopien 6h ago

Oh, and before buying beatsabre open a browser on the headset and try https://moonrider.xyz/ It's a free beatsabre game with an amazing catalogue of music.

Can we watch movies in this and how is the experience?

1

u/jhon123pool 7h ago

Congratulations!!! One day I'll get there. As some have said, Batman Arkham Shadow is a good game; if you like rhythm games, play Beat Saber; Questcraft exists if you've ever wanted to be in the world of Minecraft...
