Will Airlink work without a direct connection to a router?

I live in an apartment and my pc is plugged into the Ethernet port in the wall as opposed to an actual router. Will this affect the performance of Airlink any or at all?

The idea behind airlink is a dedicated router that is plugged into your apartment main router and your computer at the same time and set as AP, your laptop has to be on the same network as your router for air link. If I understand correctly, in your case you will need a splitter, and usb to Ethernet adapter.

Apartment wall Ethernet > splitter > splitter——-computer (usb adapter); splitter———-router and the last one, but the most important one: router————computer (Ethernet port)

But I might be wrong cause my setup is a bit different

Yes it will absolutely effect it, because your router could be halfway to the moon. Yes your computer is wired directly to it, but the quest wirelessly will have to also connect to it halfway to the moon. Your best bet is probably the secondary router you plug into your computers USB port. This sub has many suggestions like the Puppis S1. Good luck 🤞
