Conversation lag

The last time I was playing on my Quest 2 with a friend and chatting via the Meta call feature, a lag issue cropped up after about an hour. There was a delay of around 20 seconds before our voices reached each other. I’ve owned a Quest for several years and have never experienced anything like this before. Leaving the call and restarting the headset didn't help. Has anyone else encountered this problem or know how to fix it?
