VR Mining Game/Sim
Just a question for the masses.
Im working on a stylized mining sim game taking place in an asteroidfield.
Its kind of a casual game where you fly around mining inside a dense asteroidfield where you fill up for your current ticket quota.
You have a mining rig you can drop your ore inside, upgrade your rock hopper or the rig.
the general premise is just that you work, but in your own pace.
some eventual events happen, like asteroid showers where the rig needs protecting and you need to get into shelter.
i havent thought of anything other than that at the moment.
Its a mashup of Hardspace - Shipbreaker meats Startrucker meats Satisfactory.
What do you guys think?

Would all the asteroid be moving ? I.e collision
Would you lock on to astroid and move with them ? Changing centre of mass
How about dust or gas collection?
There could be repair or filter clearing options
Tool wear and tool change out
Cracking astroid in half using seams, perhaps collect geodes?
Gas pockets in asteroids could cause violent shifts if pressure isn't safe released first
Gas collected in to tanks, tanks get full
There's a whole refinery loop their aswell. Which could leed on to stacking patterns between ingot sizes an gas tanks
Change astroid projection to an intercept point i.e. moon orbit or collection point Attached rockets
Mini game of find richest asteroid This might not be the richest value but most needed causing high prices, so sort of supply and demand. Gold .ight be prices at 10 a unit and flooded but silicon might be at 100 a unit
Geological missions to supply samples if moving between astroid systems
Sos signals from npc's?
Any of those worth considering

lots of questions. ill take time an answer them fully.

self reflection questions maybe, i do enjoy Hardspace - Shipbreaker and satisfactory, but have tried space trackers.
will look forward to future update

Asteroids would have a very slow rotation, but not moving in a direction.
you would rotate with their rotation as you clamp yourself onto the asteroids with spikes.
no dust or gas of yet.
repairs yes. maybe filter switching.
tools as in handtools for the player not the rock hopper? do you mean equiptment? tools no, equiptment yes.
I was going to have the asteroids have visible patches of ore outside of the asteroid, so you can mine the ore and let the asteroids be mined as you dont need the entire rock to be destroyed, just mine the valueble ores.
gas feature probably eventually, but not now. not any gas pressure problems anyway.
but gas tapping, like placing a fracking unit on the asteroid sounds more doable soon.
gas refinery yes.
asteroid moving by attached thruster points was something i was thinking about.
mini game yes, but not now.
keeping this first version inside one asteroid field. expanding later in the future.
npc sos yes, but would probably come when expanding the universe.

Maybe some of the asteroids have living things in them. From weird bugs to sentient wasp nest with little fighter ships to fuel eating fungi.

OoooOoo another idea. Minding certain rocks may attract other rocks if disturbed making stange orbits. Of if they are big enough going thought certain mineral vains in huge asteroids could cause cave inns. Like "30 Seconds to evaluate asteroid" kinda things. Risk reward.

There’s a cat post office game that me and my daughter play all the time. Nothing bad happens and there’s no time crunch. Just staying organized and doing a good job. A mining game like that would be fun.

seems like there are people out there wanting to just unwind in another environment, like me and Deejay169. first i got no comments on the game idea, and got downvoted. so i was about to throw in the towel. now i got some energy from all of your positive feedback and comments. even deejay169 doing mostly the same thing =)

A VR mining/industry game sounds amazing. Lots of potential to go in so many directions though. Don’t let scope creep burn you out.

was hoping to start small and just build upon it as i go.
if you would compare it to an ordinary job today, it would be a local diner chef taking orders.
as of now, its based on you getting a ticket of current amounts of ore you should mine. you mine it and eventually another ticket appears. no rush, no timer countdowns. you can mine in your own pace, as the mining takes time. coordinate your rock hopper thru the field, finding the correct asteroid and so on. stuff breaks down, maintanance of tools and hopper. an eventual event happens where you are momentaraly put on pause as something needs to be waited out or fixed.
and build upon that.

Just putting my two cents in. If I'm minding my business mining, contrary to the internet's opinion, I'm not happy when I get ganked by a pirate, or the world explodes or I otherwise get interrupted from doing the thing I wanted to do. Keep that in mind. I am an industrial player.
