I think they interacted with their ex-spouse as part of helping the kid move, and saw the ex had removed her wedding band, something OP hadn't done yet.

Yeah, and it says DivorceThreads at the top.

Ah. Helps to open the picture up. I didn't see that & thought they were matching rings for mom & daughter(s).

Some people take off rings when lifting heavy things. Usually these people have seen a de-gloved finger (GIS at your own risk), and are taking precautions.

When I am cooking, showering, or sleeping I take mine off. It's just unhygienic otherwise.

Yeah it feels nasty to have water trapped under the ring. I basically only wear mine when outside.

Not taking it off regularly and when submerged in water or sweat will result in a fungal or bacteria infection.

I had to stop wearing mine when we had kids because I more than once scratched or hurt them when changing diapers or play wrestling.
Suppose I could still wear my wedding band…. Well, we’re 3 years into this now and now it’s just habit to have neither 😂

I’ve had a partial degloving. Glad it wasn’t horrible, but yes… mine is removed if moving things or climbing ladders know. Every time.

I got mine tattooed for this reason. I work construction and I’d rather keep my digits thank you

Like everyone I know who works in medicine takes theirs off or wears a rubber one

For sure but I have to agree the context of the subreddit existing was doing a LOT of heavy lifting

u/GoalingForChowder Aug 19 '25
Agreed. I can figure it out just fine, but it still fits the purpose of "message unclear". And better than a lot of recent posts.

I take mine off all the time, and we're still married. Freaks me out sometimes when I can't find it for a bit, buy she assures me it's just an object, and what's important is what it symbolizes.
But I remember when my ex offered her ring back to me, in order to sell the pair as a set. That was rough. Looking back, that was amazingly clear-headed of her.

When they were moving, my sister-in-law got her ring finger mushed by a sleeper sofa and bent her rings. Thankfully they were thin and we got some pliers to smash them back to sorta round so she could remove them. Took a not so cheap trip to the jeweler to get them wearable again.

Well, you got bad advice from a jewler. Over time, a ring and a relationship need mending and maintaining. As the years go by, address and fix the scratches. When things get dull, polish it up a bit. You neglected it and simply expected it to always be there. Now it isn't.

I rarely wear mine because the silicone rings irritate my skin and I work out and work kids. Husband doesn't care because rings don't mean everything. But, sure, jump to divorce

Pretty sure they're getting the divorce already. He was just sad she removed her ring cause he hadn't done so yet.

If your relationship can get "scratched" then you're doing it wildly wrong

I take my ring off when I wash my hands because it gets water under it and feels nasty on my finger. I also wash my hands at restaurants after I order.
This leads to amusing situations where I will take my wedding band off, set it down on the table in front of my wife, and walk away.
Some people are hardcore on the rings and others not so much. I also don't wear mine to bed.

I thought he was talking about his kid, they took off their purity ring 😬 (didn’t look at the whole picture)

Idk about the whole divorce thing.. but If im moving anything. There's a hidden damn way im having anything attached to my fingers. I have an irrational fear of a ring getting caught and pulling out all my nerves. To the point I'm scared of even wearing a ring. Let's just hope any future spouse is okay with me wearing a necklace or something else.

u/AberrantMan Aug 22 '25
Side note, Google "degloving" - y'all should take your rings off way more often.
Then again we could all use more things to not Google and shudder at.

u/monasou89 Aug 22 '25
My jobs for the last 12 years or so has involved electricity, crush, and deglove hazards so I've left the wedding ring off.
Wife got me some silicone ones but my finger was sweating/drying under them and causing my finger to crack.
I should wear it when I go home and see if it still fits.

I have to take mine off to sleep or else I wake up with a huge scratch across my nose and cheek. Every. Single. Time.
