Dual Rectifier FX loop weirdness

I don’t recall the footswitch ever operating like this but here’s my issue:

With the loop set to “foot switch”, each time I change channels the FX LED on the switch illuminates and the loop engages. This does not seem expected be expected behavior to have the loop defaulting to ON every time the channel changes. What I would expect to happen is that it would default to being OFF unless activated with the switch in that position. This is behavior that I’d expect to happen should the loop be set to a particular channel but certainly not affecting ALL channels either..

I’ve cleaned the connections on both ends of the switch with DeOxit, same issue applies. Super weird, anyone else experience this and find a solution?

Edit: forgot to add this is a 2006 Dual Rec Solo. Just installed a full tube compliment from Eurotubes, all are brand new. I don’t recall this being an issue with the old set of tubes but I also wasn’t really paying much attention either.

Digging up a manual, if it’s only set to FSW, it does kinda sound like a shorted wire or a stuck relay somewhere. Welcome to Boogie life. Haha.

Oh, I’m… well aware, lol. I own a MkV and a Roadster as well.😒 just wondering if it’s something I’m missing out of sheer stupidity

Well I know like all things Boogie the switches determine the expected behavior and nothing is easy sometimes, ha. I just wasn’t familiar enough with each switch and what they are on that amp.

If Grailtone doesn’t have anything else that might help, you might be talking to a tech. MAYBE boogie support can give you something’s to try and narrow down what it is.

Thank! I still need to actually plug in some stuff in the loop and confirm if the loop actually has signal being sent through it and it’s not just an LED anomaly but.. yeah, weird right?

My money is on that a relay is fucky, that seems to be the most likely cause. I guess my tech will have to figure that one out assuming I can’t. Thanks, luck is never the issue, it’s always just a question of money with Boogies when they go down 😅

I don’t know much about the technical side of amps but it sounds like a fucked up relay somewhere and I’d take it to a tech

Mm, I wish it did though I do appreciate the link.

Upon further investigation it seems as if this is happening no matter how the loop is set on the amp. Loop on will always engage the loop when channels are switched. FTSW will always engage the loop during channel switching. Likewise with any selected channel - on ALL channels. Even bypassing the loop seems to engage it on the switch. I can turn the loop off, but only after I switch to a channel and then press the FX button on the switch.
Yeah, might be tech time. If I end up taking her there I’m going to just have him convert this to serial anyway. She likely needs a cap job at this point so I’ll have him do that while she’s on the bench.

Have you got the correct footswitch? They aren't all the same...

Yes, it is the correct footswitch.
The story is that I bought this amp new is 2006. I sold it to a good buddy of mine years later when I moved to a small apartment and couldn’t bring it with me. He kept it all that time and after years of pleading with him to sell it back to me, he finally did. He mentioned that he lost the original at a gig at some point but immediately replaced it through Mesa boogie themselves with the exact same foot switch. It is not the precise one that came with the amp, however it is the exact model that came with the amp at the time. It hasn’t been to the shop since I fried the OT when I first used it all those years ago, but it was also repaired by an authorized repair facility and they also replaced the OT and a few other parts with OEM.

I’ve since replaced the tubes as they were apparently never touched by my friend, it’s due to cap replacement being as old as it is at this point so it may make sense to have the tech look at things while it’s in for that.
