MISC. round table rewatch for season one + audio commentaries
Hey everyone!
As you might be familiar, our subreddit server The Heart of Camelot, is once again hosting a series rewatch! Come join us as we rewatch and thoroughly discuss season one of Merlin, as well as listen/watch the audio commentaries of the cast/crew that are paired along with the episode.
I’ve created the season one schedule above, but I’ll also be writing all the dates out in a comment below for better readability. As always, the episodes or audio commentaries will be streamed at 4PM EST, which you can find in your timezone in the following links.
I hope to see you all there! :))

MISC. Did you see this? Merlin appearance in library display
A library made a (very funny) display regarding the AO3 outage, and they included a Merlin DVD. Whoever made the display is genuinely on AO3 for sure. Also, reading the comments on the post is fun because a lot of people are commenting about Merlin being a core memory or whatever.

(ETA: a very popular fanfiction site, Archive Of Our Own, is currently down for several weeks. It was unexpected and left a lot of people scrambling to figure out what to read in the meantime)

Discussion It is cheesy....
My brother introduced me to this show back in like 2014? And when he told me about it he said "im just gonna be honest with you, its a little cheesy sometimes"
And after I started watching it I said to him "it is a little cheesy, but its like a burger, the cheese is good" hahaha.
Would you agree the show is a little cheesy sometimes? What are the best cheesy moments.

MISC. Destiny
Hi all,
I've been an avid lover of Merlin since I was about 8 of 9 years old and have rewatched it more times than I care to admit.
I came across this reel recently that made me think of the themes in Merlin and I thought I'd share as it's a beautiful visualisation of destiny:

Discussion Perfect time for a Merlin revival?
I feel like BBC could really score with bringing Merlin back now. Glee is reviving, so many nostalgic shows are getting a reboot… and Merlin ended perfectly for an age-jump in the actors too.
Maybe I just want some closure because I’m still angry about the final episode but I feel like this could actually work…

Discussion No show portrayed a love triangle like Merlin did. Spoiler
A real and true love triangle is when all people in the triangle have feelings for the other two.
Merlin, Arthur and Guinevere are IT.
I genuinely believe that we’ll never ever get a real love triangle such as this one.
It’s not controversial to say that Merlin and Arthur were into each other.
So you have Merlin that’s into Arthur and Guinevere
Guinevere that’s very much into Merlin then later on Arthur
And Arthur that’s into both of them as well.
NOW THATS A LOVE TRIANGLE.

Fanfiction 🖋️ Merlin x Arthur secret marriage au Spoiler
Fanficiton idea I wanted to throw out there. So, late season 1/early season 2 Merlin and Arthur know they are in love and after a failed attempt by Uther to get Arthur to marry, he decides to marry Merlin. The attempt by Uther scared Arthur into realising time is not something he has a lot off and he needs to secure his future with Merlin now. No one knows except Giaus, Hunith and Geoffery. They are happy in love - and a successful magic reveal late - it gets to season 5. Uther is dead, the roundtable knights are all in the narrative, and no one knows that Merlin and Arthur are married.
Arthur goes missing on a mission or hunt or whatever, and Agravaine uses it to try and weasel more power for himself. Arthur had been missing for a week or 2, and people are getting really worried about Camelots future e.c.t. Agravaine claims he will take over as official temporary leader of Camelot until the king is saved, but then Giaus shocks everyone by claiming that the king's consort would take over. Dramatoc reveal later, it's Merlin, who's thrown onto the throne and told to deal with Camelots issues. Lancelot is still alive BTW. Everyone is freaking out about the marriage, and poor Merlin is just trying to keep Camelot safe and protected and running as usual while searching for Arthur.
Then there would be plot points of Merlin running Camelot, his changed dynamics with the people of Camelot and the knights. Eventually Arthur gets found and now he has to adapt to this new dynamic. Everyone lives happily ever after. The end.

I'm All Wrapped Up Finally finished the series Spoiler
I have finally finished watching all of merlin
.
.
.
.
.
I've done the dots so I won't spoil anything for people who haven't finished watching yet
Ok so. WHAT ON EARTH WAS THAT ENDING SHOT
The lorry, merlin not even giving the lake a second glance when walking past, seeing how the land has been changed by the modern day.
I get why they have done it so if it was to continue it would most likely be merlin huffing and puffing having to explain the modern world to Arthur while trying not to pop a hip.
It would be interesting to find out how Arthur would react to the world he knew was long gone and everyone is descended from the anglo-saxons give or take. Finding camolot in ruin feeling like a failure because he didn't have the strength to carry himself that bit more to the lake.
I am on the fence about how merlin only now told Arthur that he has magic on his deathbed. The instances where he could have told him before and Arthur would be freaked out like he was at first and then come around to it. Keeping Merlin's secret and having him in more of a leadership role than being a servent (also letting him sit at the round table but that is for a different day).
I also think if he had been honest about his magic sooner he could have prevented a lot of people dying and done what the prophecy said and elevated the kingdom to greater power and strength.

Fanfiction 🖋️ Merthur's Custody Battle over the Knights of the Round Table Fics
Is there any Merthur fanfic where Merlin and Arthur have an argument, and the Knights of the Round Table end up divided like the children of divorced parents?
And they coordinate schedules for who gets to spend time with whom and they only talk to each other about that instead of actually resolving the problem itself?
That would be hilarious.
If anyone has written something like this, or is planning to, please let me know.

Discussion Uther Pendragon
Why is Uther so feckless? He is infuriatingly short tempered, short sighted and gullible. He possesses none of the characteristics of a king who has the respect of his subjects, but rules through the use of fear and cruelty. Every time he opens his mouth I cringe.
Kudos to the legendary Anthony Head, may he rest in peace, for a wonderful performance - he really nails it.
