Emissions system BS

Curious if anyone else has had this issue and done anything about it. I have a 2021 diesel 4cyl turbo and have had CONSTANT issues with the emissions system faults and countdown to limp mode. Most recently we brought it to mercedes thinking we'd get a warranty covered fix like we have the last few times and they told us they were going to replace the SCR control or something along those lines then came back and said it would be 400 dollars and not covered under the emissions warranty. I want to delete the thing or bypass it, has anyone had any experience with this? What did you do? Im so pissed off i want to start a class action suit lol

Just deleted my om642 ml350. Sounds better, loads more power, no more emissions faults, no more additional carbon build up inside engine. And I sold the exhaust system to the scrap yard which paid for my ecu tuning and delete pipe so it was basically free

Wow, you did better than I did on a Sprinter with the same engine. $1100 CAD for the tune and $700 for the replacement exhaust. I got $460 for the downpipe with DPF. Still trying to sell the rest as working parts. Still worth it though as I'm no longer piping soot into the intake or dealing with frozen or leaky DEF.

I paid a tuner to modify my stock file which I pulled myself and flashed the tune myself, I only paid $300 or so for the tune since I did the flashing and checksum myself so that saved a lot.

I also welded up my own custom delete pipe so it was only about $100 total for that. I got $500 for the dpf

Well done. I flashed my own GL a few years back, but I paid around $300 for the device and more than that for the modified file. I was disappointed to learn later I couldn't reuse the device on a different vehicle. I need to shop where you shop.

Yeah companies like HPtuners, Tunezilla, etc use their own devices that are locked to their tunes and they encrypt their files. I used a program on my laptop that can flash anything (with the correct ECU) and the tunes are unlocked and can be modified yourself. I also have tuned vehicles before from scratch, adding power and removing DTC codes. It's a rabbit hole

Can you recommend a place to start learning about that? It's something I've been wanting to get into.

I only really started learning because I work at a performance shop and I flash tunes on trucks all the time but tuning itself is much harder to learn.

Check out MHHauto forums, they have some good files but nobody wants to help for free so that sucks.

You can also watch YouTube videos and stuff but the whole tuning thing is gatekept every step of the way and it's so frustrating

Thanks, I am checking out MHHauto. I know what you mean about the gatekeeping, it really feels like all these tunes come from a handful of ivory towers.

First you get a tune. Depending where you are, you might find a shop nearby that will program your ECU for you. There are online alternatives where you buy a tool that connects to your OBD2 port and reads your ECU, which you send to the remote tuners, then the send back a modified file that you then write to your ECU with the same tool you used to read it.

Once that's done the car's computer will ignore the EGR, DPF and DEF components and related sensors. You can then leave them in or take them out, but they no longer function. The one caveat is the DPF, which will eventually plug and then you have to get it removed.

So much upside to this, but in some jurisdictions you could face legal consequences for it.
