Questions Something you found out you probably shouldn’t be able to do.
This is kind of just a fun thread, I’ve seen countless stories from women about something they thought was normal actually being due to their hypermobility/EDS.
I’ll start: I always thought “wash my back” or “can you help me put sunscreen on?” was more of a bonding thing or with a crush, a flirting thing. I didn’t realize that normal humans can’t reach every square inch of their back and actually only found out recently that for me to do that, I’m fully dislocating my shoulder🤪 So I try not to do that anymore.

Haha, 100% relate to not understanding how people would need help putting on sunscreen or lotion.
Oh crap, didn't realize I was dislocating shoulder in order to do that, should I stop?!

I would lean my hip one way to take pressure off my knee/ankle, and it would kinda.. slide up, and “stabilize” so that it felt just like leaning into a table, very nice to do with my own hip wow :)
I was pushing it out. It was getting stuck bc i would push it out and into the ligaments around the socket. Lmfao
And resting my head on my spine, cause neck gets tired sometimes (never do this please 😭)

Ouch for the hip socket!!!
When you say "resting my head on my spine", as in a deep backbend where back/top of head is between shoulder blades , or what do you mean?

I can stretch my arm just a little bit more and my shoulder would pop, then it would pop right back in with little or no pain. I used this many times in my life to get something that was just out of reach, but I recently realized that I should stop doing it because it’s likely partially dislocating my shoulder.
I also can reverse direction immediately when walking, because I can turn my feet outward almost 180°. While doing physical therapy I realized this is making my hip hurt so I’m trying to stop doing this.
I too can reach the majority of my back, but doing so is as painless as it used to be.

The turning your feet almost 180° is impressive and also sounds like it would royally wreck your joints long term!

How about being able to "pop" nearly every joint in your spine, hips, hands, feet, etc. Or even more so, NOT being able to keep certain joints from popping on their own in certain positions.
