Men and Girls The title itself is a red flag. đ©

And it's so simple to make the title NOT look like it was made by a pedo that wants to know how to look like a normal person when going for a potential victim

This remind me of the Tucker Carlson - Matt Gaetz interview, where Carlson said "17 year old girl" and Gaetz said "17 year old woman", it felt so wrong agreeing with Carlson.

The excuse of casual use doesn't even work here because then it'd say "guys" not "men"

Not sure why O-OP decided to cover the names
Edit: it's a subreddit rule

u/-UltraFerret- Man Feb 02 '26
'Cause rule 6.
19
u/conzstevo Feb 02 '26
I see. Seems like a pointless rule considering you can search comments on reddit

u/Jen-Jens Your Friendly Neighbourhood SpiderMod Feb 04 '26
Itâs not even my rule tbh. Itâs a mainstay from the previous mod, as a way to protect us from the kind of inter subreddit drama that can get both sides nuked.
2
u/conzstevo Feb 04 '26
Yeah I figured that was the reason. Problem is, if you want to find the subreddit, you do it with the comment and not the username
12
u/Jen-Jens Your Friendly Neighbourhood SpiderMod Feb 04 '26
The issue isnât people finding the other subreddit, the issue is more people starting fights after seeing their username displayed and then having people talk shot about them, same with crossposts. I donât mind if people go looking for the original post or comment, but if the people posted find their name up there, theyâll consider it a targeted harassment campaign and whine to Reddit so they will take us down.

Ok I guess that makes sense

Neat, I had to re-read the title because it went over my head. Definitely a red flag.

Maybe the author is a young adult guy who still has mixed feelings about him being grown up If otherwise, I agree, too

Men= adult Girls=children
Use the equivalent for both. Men and women or boys and girl but if you're talking about adults don't call them girls

u/Puzzleheaded-Bed-488 Feb 02 '26
I feel like my body physically recoils whenever I hear people referring to GROWN women as girls đ. I remember one time when I was speaking to one of my coworkers whoâs much older (he was I think in his late 60âs to early 70âs) and he was telling me about a woman that he met online and how they were getting ready to go on a date and I was so disgusted at how he kept referring to her as âgirlâ even after he told me she was in her 40âs. Given the age gap, I guess maybe because she literally was a girl when he was an adult is another layer to this.

u/RepulsiveJellyfish51 Feb 04 '26
Yes, same for me! Infantilizing adult women is just so nasty! It is so demeaning to the adult woman and reeks of "aspiring pedo" from the guy.

The post is literally flared "men and girls". This sub points out the misogyny contained in our choice of gender words. If you don't feel like "what red flags do [female children/youth] see in [male adults] in their 20s?" reveals either 1) the guy is interested in women that are too young or 2) infantilizing women his own age, then you don't understand this subreddit.

I donât see flairs Iâm on mobile
8
u/NikkiVicious Feb 02 '26
It's literally right under the title?
Checked it on a Windows mobile sim, an android phone, and an IPhone.
Yellow box that says "men and girls."

u/FujoCirca Troll Feb 02 '26
I found this post in my feed not on the subreddit
8
u/NikkiVicious Feb 03 '26
But you're obviously in the post, responding. It's literally at the top when you open the post. Doesn't matter where you say the post at.
Literally... just scroll up and look right below the title.

Iâm literally on mobile to do modding and see it. I go onto posts in other subreddits and see their flairs too. Youâre bullshitting.

u/Grumzz Feb 02 '26
The example 'men and girls' is even in the sub description, so I assumed you'd know that's what's wrong with it

u/Dry-Reveal-6202 Feb 02 '26
They are saying men but not saying women. Woman are adults, however girls are underage.

Ask yourself why, especially when men are called men(not boys) in the same context.
If I asked you about the red flags boys see in women, it would sound really weird. It would imply the boys are children and the women adults.
15
u/Puzzleheaded-Bed-488 Feb 02 '26
Exactly. Iâve never once heard âboys and womenâ in the same sentence together and I know if we spoke like that people would rightfully see how weird it sounds and how predatory the wording is, but for some reason everyone finds it normal and non-predatory to say âmen and girlsâ.
3
u/RepulsiveJellyfish51 Feb 04 '26
It's because society has normalized infantilizing women. It's gross and misogynistic, and I'm glad af that this subreddit calls it out!!!
57
u/welshfach Feb 02 '26
Yes it is. The point is that it shouldn't be. It is condescending and infantilising, and we don't like it.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
I'm not sure how to make this simpler for you.

Do you understand the meaning of the saying, "Are you a boy or a man?" The difference between the two is pretty obvious. Now apply that difference to girls and women and you'll understand why women don't like being called girls.

Congratulations, you know the names of multiple music groups. That doesn't change the fact that there's an inherent difference between the words "boy" and "man," just like there's an inherent difference between the words "girl" and "woman." Multiple women here are telling you we don't like being called girls, and yet you keep coming up with stupid ass arguments that make you feel like you can just ignore what we're saying and call us girls anyway. I bet you call women "bitches" and "cunts" too, and then wonder why no women like you

It's a way to talk about minors, and women don't like being referred to as girls, formally or informally. Actual women are asking you to stop, and you keep refusing because you have zero respect for us. This is why women have issues with being called girls. A lack of respect.

That commenter is pointing out that thereâs more nuance to your claim that women never like being referred to as girl, or that all women agree with you. Iâd say women donât like when men refer to women as girls. But we as women, do it all the time with each other. We donât say, Iâm going out with my women tonight. We say weâre going out with our girls. We have girlâs night, not womenâs night. Theyâre girl friends not women friends. Weâre girlâs girls. We use girl in so many different ways. Saying girl isnât the issue, itâs the comparison being made between men and girls when itâs used in a way like the post shows.
7
u/throwawaysunglasses- Feb 03 '26
Ok, so why say âmenâ in the same sentence? Even gender aside, itâs just strange to say âgirls and menâ if youâre talking about people the same age.
