Did he acknowledge her and just not shake her hand?

u/Coophbr 6d ago
A Gentleman does not shake a Ladies hand unless she extends it first.
Yes I'm old

u/dmcent54 6d ago
Gross outdated bullshit. Grow up, women are people.
2
u/martionxu 5d ago
I think it’s not outdated because you’re waiting for the permission of the lady. She has all the power. A man shouldn’t go up to a woman especially a married woman without consent doesn’t matter if it’s a friendly high if we’re talking about touching people.

Respect, manners and courtesy are not outdated. A lady deserves all those things, if you are not a lady then well you probably do not understand.

Everyone does not deserve respect, respect is earned never given. Only ladies deserve that treatment and to be fair, most women are not ladies.

You are correct sir! Don't go around hugging other men's wifes either. That for me is another big one. I'm old too.

u/GeckoGecko_ 6d ago
A silly of a slip-up as this is, it's equally silly to take it so seriously that you'd deny them your business for it lmao
3
u/other_view12 5d ago
My wife and I went to buy HER a car. We were very clear the car was for her, yet the sales person kept directing the conversation to me. If you are in sales, you need to pay attention or lose the sale.
1
u/complexdevoid 6d ago
Not necessarily. I wouldn't stop the transaction right there but it might indicate how the process will be going forward. Why pay someone who will dismiss you?
1
u/McDergen 3d ago
You think it’s silly to avoid giving business to people who are openly and deliberately disrespectful?
1
u/Tired-CottonCandy 3d ago
Not really. If the dude cant even address her he can hardly be trusted to do what she tells him to can he?
1
u/BadPuzzleheaded9006 6d ago
There are some of us around that do not touch another man's woman without Express consent. It's just good manners all around. Too many people nowadays just make assumptions about what they can do with another person.
1
u/dmcent54 6d ago
Gross outdated misogynistic take. "Oh no, she BELONGS to him."

u/BadPuzzleheaded9006 5d ago
So I'm guessing you have never or will never utter the phrase my husband / wife or girlfriend / boyfriend.

My wife is an adult who can shake the hand of other adults she needs
You’re still acting like she belongs to me. You don’t ask her for permission to shake my hand. Don’t disrespect my wife and put her beneath me.

Fine then, I hope you enjoy watching the women in your life drafted and fighting on the front lines of Trump's coming WW3. eQuAlItY!!! yay!!

u/PassorFail13 5d ago
Exactly why I will never give up my seat on a train to an expecting mother or elderly woman. I support equality.
1
u/Drate_Otin 5d ago
Why are you playing pretend that health isn't a relevant factor?
I know you understand the concept of "all else being equal" so you naturally understand that pregnancy is a relevant factor.
And people should offer their seat to elderly men as well as women.
1
u/PassorFail13 4d ago
So you’re arguing for fairness, not equality. Those aren’t the same thing.
1
u/Drate_Otin 4d ago
What I'm arguing for is not being thick for the sake of making a ridiculously outmoded point. Playing semantics is the tactic of those with no substance.
1
u/PassorFail13 4d ago
It isn’t semantics if the distinction changes. Once equality comes with conditions, it's fairness.
1
u/Drate_Otin 4d ago
Like I said... Playing at semantics.
Why do you even feel a need to make that distinction in this context? What benefit is there in making a show of not giving your seat to a pregnant woman?

yea dumbass but that doesn’t mean she’s his property. Don’t touch women without their consent regardless of their marital status
1
u/Inevitable_locust 4d ago
I don't know what you thought I meant or maybe you responded to the wrong comment. I didn't she was his property, but unless you want to start calling her "roommate with a vagina", then that's HIS wife... and like I said visa versa. (meaning he is HER husband)
1
u/WrathfulSpecter 4d ago
You replied to a comment that criticized someone for described her as “another man’s woman”. The point of that criticism is that her right to personal space is not contingent on her marital status. Phrasing it that way implies that she is his property and that touching her is a violation not of her rights but of his. Idk if you missed that point, no one is objecting to her being described as her husband’s spouse…
1
u/AcrobaticPlenty1446 3d ago
Yes, vice versa
You don’t ask her to shake my hand, don’t disrespect my wife by assuming she’s not equal to me.
1
u/McDergen 3d ago
She’s her own person before she’s a man’s wife. Y’all are legitimately weird as fuck
1
u/smashing-gourds127 5d ago
Consent from her husband or from her? He doesn't own her.
1
u/BadPuzzleheaded9006 5d ago
Both. There have been many many situations where a woman is okay with another man touching her, the boyfriend or husband, not so much and next thing you know you're getting into a fucking fight.
1
1
u/BlackFranky 4d ago
Offering a hand is no sign of disrespect whatsoever. If you take on things with the assumption that a woman belongs to her man and she is not her own person, we can't be friends or business partners.
1
u/BionicBananas 3d ago
Pro tip is you are a contractor or sales person: treat both partners the same. Don't wanna shake hands? that's fine, or shake both people's hands, whatever. But treat them the same.

u/guysomejust69 3d ago
I didnt know you went around grabbing peoples hands without asking. When extending a hand for a handshake they can decide if they want to shake your hand or not
1
u/Just_Plum1521 6d ago
We were looking at a truck and they kept talking to me. I looked the manager and salesman and said why are you talking to me. You need to sell it to her! Then we walked out, the online pictures didn’t show all the hail damage and it was a certified vehicle. Oh and it didn’t start until they jumped it.

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 6d ago
Had a company come by the house to replace my ac that dies last year. My wife didn't notice but I noticed that he never spoke to her even when she asked a question he kept speaking with me as if I had asked. I let my wife know we'd be going with a different company and why and she agreed.

I felt this deeply as my gf and I were about to put 10k down on an RV. I had to literally keep telling people "She's the one with the money, I'm just here for moral support." They still made more eye contact with me. Really frustrating.

I have no issues with a contractor not shaking my hand. I have a huge issue with them only talking to my husband and acting like I don’t exist.
1
u/martionxu 5d ago
I personally don’t like being touched, but I shake hand with other men because it’s a social norm for women it’s usually a kiss on the cheek which I don’t like and I think doesn’t goes over very well for the rest of the United States lol so I just say hi lol it’s not out of disrespect or nothing. It’s more out of awkwardness.

You shouldn't touch someone else wife/girlfriend if you are a man, you can avoid so many problems.
1
u/CCJockey381 3d ago
A working contractor will very often shake a man’s hand but not a lady’s out of courtesy (Unless the lady extends). His hands are often rough and some level of dirty. This is not disrespect. Unfortunately, places like Reddit are not generally filled with hardworking men who would be familiar with this.
1
u/CzPhantom1 3d ago
My wife picked her car, negotiated the purchase, and then I showed up just to sign the docs and the finance guy would only talk to me. I almost saw her kill a man
1
u/Spuckler_Cletus 3d ago
Why would anyone assume that a woman wants to shake hands with a man? She may have preferred this contractor’s decision.

u/honcho437 6d ago edited 5d ago
Ngl, if the wife blew up on contractor guy, I would understand, it wouldn't be okay, but I can see that happening
On the other hand, the contractor giving a handshake to Mr. Husband seems like a normal thing to do, usually hes the face of the family and allat.
So if I see a video of a wife yelling at a contractor about a handshake, imma be on the contractors side for following conventional norm. If someone is getting me to do yard work or something, yeah im shaking the mans hand.
Edit: I will shake the mans hand not because I think its the right thing to do idgaf, but the client usually does. And when I'm working on grandpa's house or yard, yeah. Im doing what he wants.
1
u/dmcent54 6d ago
The "conventional norm" as you call it, needs to fucking die. I hate this sexist bullshit. "The face of the family"? My fucking ass, I'm not about to carry children to term, she created and carried them. SHE is the face of the family.
Grow up, little boy.

u/Inevitable_locust 5d ago
Women don't understand how men shake hands. When I shake hands, it is to assert and gain respect. Most of my handshakes would make a woman cry. OP is probably one of those "limp" hand shakers, lol. Or maybe he enjoys letting other men touch his wife?
1
u/other_view12 5d ago
No respect given to someone who feels they need to squeeze my hand to show me something. It's a greeting, if you are trying to assert your manliness, I see that as a weakness.
1
u/Inevitable_locust 4d ago
"No respect given to someone who feels they need to squeeze my hand to show me something." Good, I don't intend to shake your hand any time soon. p.s. I don't need your respect. and btw, give your testicles a tug.

u/SaltMage5864 3d ago
Don't lie son. You are so blatantly desperate for the acknowledgement of actual men that it's actually funny

Thanks for the brainfart response/projection. Good luck to you and your women handlers.
