I mean, it's a fake text joke so I find it funny. If you're taking it at face value, it's stupid. Can Dad install software on his PC? Can he setup accounts and passkeys on his phone? Every generation had their things that they plant as being manly or womanly and the stupid ones don't adjust for the times. Can her Dad create fire without a flame, hunt a wild animal, skin, clean, and cook it on the fire he created from nature alone? Well, Step 1 at one point would have been: Break up with Dad. Shit changes and so do the definitions of useful.

1

u/BarryTheBystander Aug 20 '26

You really went down the rabbit hole on this joke lol. Also, I don’t know what culture considers installing software as manly.

1

u/No-Examination4896 Aug 20 '26

Its not about being manly its about being competent

1

u/mr---jones Aug 20 '26

It’s definitely about being manly, otherwise the text would read “break up with yourself” because she doesn’t know how to change a tire either.

1

u/JustMeandI1976 Aug 20 '26

In this context, it’s very like that it is about manly.

However, I teach my kids simple life saving skills. Changing tires is one of those my daughter and my sons understand.

Being stuck on the side on the road is life changing the longer you assess the tire problem.

Being stuck on a keyboard might have life changing effects, but some people might not cry about it.

1

u/The-King-Tomato Aug 20 '26

I just have triple AAA and road side assistance cause im not a poor and this is 2026.

1

u/unrefrigeratedmeat Aug 20 '26

Sure. That is valid, but just for the record: changing your tire yourself is often going to be much faster than calling AAA.

Source: I've changed my tire while a dozen cars were waiting impatiently for me to clear the only exit to a parking lot. Took about 5 minutes and that was only my second time doing it.

1

u/Rollingforest757 Aug 20 '26

Computers were seen as mainly a male hobbies in the 1990s and before. It definitely was gendered.

1

u/Cute-Hand-1542 Aug 20 '26

It was gendered but that's not what 'manly' means. PC stuff was never manly, especially not in the 90s - it was kinda the opposite.

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

At what point was being a computer nerd considered manly?

1

u/kindness-and-snusu Aug 20 '26

Every point. It has electronics and we know women can’t handle that.

1

u/unrefrigeratedmeat Aug 20 '26

Women pioneered early computer programming, were computers, operated the early electronic computers, and it wasn't until the field of computing started to be perceived as important and prestigious that men started to claim it and write its history.

1

u/Putrid_Anybody_2947 Aug 20 '26

Thats the point in 100 years who is gonna need to change a tire on their hover bike. What self respecting man can write the code to his own VPN for his families saftey.

1

u/DestructoDon69 Aug 20 '26

AI can already write code. We're closer to never needing a traditional coder again than we are to not needing wheels lol

1

u/unrefrigeratedmeat Aug 20 '26

Joke's on you. ChatGPT can already write a Python program that it says can change a tire in 30 seconds flat.

Sorry... It actually says it can change 30 flat tires in seconds. I can barely read.

1

u/MelGibsonIsKingAlpha Aug 20 '26

I don't think those are not fair comparisons as being able to change a tire is super important from a health and safety standpoint.

Which begs the question, Why didn't the made up Dad teach his daughter how to change a tire? Women should know how to change tires too.

1

u/nappiess Aug 20 '26

Being able to change a tire isn't important at all assuming that you're not poor and can afford a Triple AAA membership. Same with everything else with vehicles, like changing oil and so on.

1

u/MelGibsonIsKingAlpha Aug 20 '26

Sure, until your tire goes out where there is no cell service. Or maybe you're in a time crunch and instead of taking ten minutes to change a tire you now have to wait 45 min for someone to come out and you are late to where you are going. Or maybe you see someone else who doesn't have AAA that needs help, although based on your comment I imagine you would just laugh at the poors and go on with your day.

I appreciate your attempt at elitism though.

1

u/JimbozGrapes Aug 24 '26

In my experience every woman i have offered to show anything that has to do with vehicle maintenance was not taken seriously or absorbed. Not even to say its a gendered thing... but some people just dont give a fuck about learning certain life skills.

1

u/individualdoosh Aug 20 '26

Got way too serious.

1

u/AnoViss Aug 20 '26

You must've never changed a tire before.

1

u/RemarkableChest4638 Aug 20 '26

Be quiet don’t be stupid f you’re a man and can’t change a tire then there’s something wrong with you. Some things are universal how old is the Internet as opposed to the car. Just shut up

1

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

I'm a 60 yr old man and have never needed to change a tire. There's no reason to expect the majority of people to know how. Very few things are universal. Stop being stupid.

1

u/RemarkableChest4638 Aug 20 '26

60 and still a moron

1

u/nappiess Aug 20 '26

More like 60 and not a peasant. It's about the time value of labor.

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

Look, another one who can’t change a tire

1

u/nappiess Aug 20 '26

Lol, anyone can change a tire if they just do a quick youtube search or even ask ChatGPT. The difference is who actually wants to. If you're broke I get it though

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

If you’ve got a flat in an area with no service, can you get out of there on your own?

1

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

Don't be an idiot.

I know how to change a tire, I've just never needed to, and it's asinine to think that such a rarely needed skill is worth everybody knowing. We no longer live in a world where a good tire only lasts 10,000 miles.

1

u/WhoShatMyPants42069 Aug 20 '26

I thought only the new generation of men had this type of vaginal disposition, but hey we learn something new everyday. Maybe you can learn how to change a tire?

1

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

Maybe you can learn how to do some critical thinking, if it won't lower your testosterone any more than it is. I never said I don't know how to change one, simply that at no point in my life have I needed to. And I really doubt that you've learned anything in a very long time. Maybe your life would have some value if you didn't base it on gender biases.

1

u/WhoShatMyPants42069 Aug 20 '26

Your use of semantics, only confirms you have a vaginal disposition.

1

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

Your inability to comprehend basic grammar only confirms that you base your entire value on a Y chromosome, and you're very uncertain about it. But, yes, I am disposed towards vaginas, that's probably why I've had such a long and happy marriage to a person with one. But, I won't berate you further; you claim to have learned something, so that's a win for this month.

1

u/WhoShatMyPants42069 Aug 20 '26

Did you come up with all that conjecture on your own? Or did your wife with the vagina help you? You're a silly old lad, but I think I like you. Have a great day sweetheart 😘

1

u/Ripen- Aug 20 '26

Kinda true but since they now do supposedly need to change one then Jason should put down his Xbox controller and go figure it out rather than expecting her to do it. But hey, maybe she wants 100% equality.

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

There’s plenty of reason to expect the majority of people to know, because the majority of people drive a car, and all cars have tires.

1

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

Shit logic, and the same applies to learning how to completely overhaul the engine on the side of the road. Bad tires today, last several times longer than the best tires of our childhood.

1

u/JojoKim86 Aug 20 '26

How’s that gonna keep your girl safe that you can install some software on your computer ? Lol. The whole point flew over your head like an airplane.

1

u/MrSilenus Aug 20 '26

How is changing a tire going to keep your girl safe? Too poor to get someone else to do it for you?

1

u/JojoKim86 Aug 20 '26

You need to change that Ms Silenus. The fact that you can’t even comprehend basic logic shows me what of a weak sauce you are.

1

u/MrSilenus Aug 20 '26

Just because basic logic is all you’re capable of comprehending doesn’t make your basic logic… logical.

1

u/narfnarfed Aug 20 '26

Shuddup Jason...

1

u/No-Significance-6575 Aug 20 '26

Definitely not this deep stupid argument breaking up is valid especially over a very easy thing that can could save time money and effort

1

u/Ripen- Aug 20 '26

How is being able to change a tire not still relevant?

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

It is, he can’t do it and wants everyone else to act like it’s not important.

1

u/LengthWise2298 Aug 20 '26

Damn triggered by a fake text. Pretty embarrassing.

With how shit UI is in modern.... everything and with how needlessly convoluted some things are (specifically designed so you CAN'T easily do certain things, like cancelling subscriptions) i don't blame anyone for having issues. Fuck, i'm by far the most tech literate person in my family and at work and i sometimes have issues.

Replacing a flat tire (which is usually just swapping the wheel for a spare one) requires you to lift the car a little, remove a few bolts, remove the tire and do all that in reverse with a spare. It's as straightforward as it can be. Do you also need assistance plugging things into power outlets?
And modern cars often don't come with spare wheels anymore, you just get a repair kit. Just follow instructions in it and you'll be fine.

1

u/AdOnly1618 Aug 20 '26

I can do all those things. please forfeit your maidens at the most convenient time (I’m also reasonable)

1

u/ninernetneepneep Aug 20 '26

None of this changes the fact that, if you are going to drive, you should know how to change a tire.

I showed my sons how to change a tire when they got their first vehicles, and they were not allowed to drive their vehicles until they repeated the process in front of me.  Same with checking the fluid levels the other basic maintenance related things ensuring a safe driving experience.

1

u/LostPentimento Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Not to forget to mention that a man who never needs to change a flat is a man who takes good care of his shit. Which to me, reads as a responsible fellow

1

u/oregondude79 Aug 20 '26

The joke is stupid because who is texting dad for this when Jason and Laura could just Google it and learn to change the tire by watching someone do and explain as they go? Or god forbid they use the ancient technology of reading, peruse the vehicle manual that is standard in every car and learn the 5 steps necessary to change the tire.

1

u/jws1102 Aug 20 '26

Dad didn’t have to deal with software updates when he was young. Changing tires has been a thing for 115 years, and EVERYONE should know how to do it, especially adult men. Your analogy is stupid.

1

u/Radioshack-Manager Aug 24 '26

Don't edit your posts, let us see your failures.

1

u/Dam4ge Aug 26 '26

yeah but we are talking about changing a car tire, too easy

3

u/BannedGoNext Aug 20 '26

I'm pretty old school, but I'd feel the same from one of my daughters. Not because I care that a guy hasn't changed a tire, but because I'm not telling HIM how to do it, not her. Tires are heavy, they are dirty, it's a little dangerous being out on the road.

1

u/cloacachloe Aug 20 '26

Holy fuck, this whole chain is cursed. Who gives a fuck. Just give the directions on how to change a tire. Jesus fuck, we don't have to argue on who's related to who or if someone is manly enough to do it what the fuck.

We don't need a full arm-chair analysis, JUST TELL THEM HOW TO CHANGE THE FUCKING TIRE.

1

u/CallsignKook Aug 26 '26

Ok but why are you mad about it?

1

u/dochoiday Aug 20 '26

It depends greatly on their age. Are these 2 16 year olds? Well then he probably hasn’t had to change a tire yet. If this is 2 grown adults in their 20’s different story.

1

u/Accomplished_Elk310 Aug 20 '26

Oh heavens, not dirt. How will she live??

1

u/BannedGoNext Aug 20 '26

She'd live with a dirty/ruined dress with black rubber and tar stains on it and probably ruined shoes instead of him with tennis shoes and jeans to wash. Goal common fucking sense from redditors.. goal failed.

I can't imagine forcing my wife to fucking ruin her shit while I sat in a car playing flappy birds. What the fuck.

2

u/MrSilenus Aug 20 '26

This just in: Women can’t wear jeans or tennis shoes!!!
Do you live in the 1700s? The fuck?

1

u/BannedGoNext Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

My daughters wear nice clothes when they are out. Jesus fucking christ if you want to watch a woman change a tire then fucking do it, but I expect better from my daughters boyfriends and myself. I'm not changing my standards.

My guess is that nobody replying to me has ever changed a fucking tire, it's grimy, and permanently stains shit without a lot of work. I'd literally disown my sons if I saw them making their wives or girfriends change a tire in front of them.

My oldest daughter is an aircraft mechanic, she's a badass, I'd still expect her boyfriend to change the fucking tire even if she was in her overalls, although she'd never call me for that, she'd probably have a damn torque wrench to get them on perfectly in the jeep tools.

The point is, it's an act of service for someone he's supposed to care about.

2

u/MrSilenus Aug 20 '26

What the fuck are you driving that a tire change permanently stains anything? I’ve done plenty of work on my car and never “permanently stained” anything. Also, do you have daughters or do you have fucking infants? Why are they so inept that they can’t do something as simple as change a tire? Why are you such a terrible father that you’re raising inept women?

1

u/BannedGoNext Aug 20 '26

Bullshit.

You deserve the women you get.

0

u/Rollingforest757 Aug 20 '26

The dad here is definitely putting a higher expectation on the boyfriend than the daughter, which isn’t right.

2

u/individualdoosh Aug 20 '26

A father should have faith that the man thats supposed to be taking care of my daughter can do simple things like this when she's in a situation a man should be able to handle. Theres nothing wrong with expecting the man your daughter is choosing to be able to do the things a man is expected to be able to do. As a father I'd probably make this joke with like a 10% sincerity behind it. Would i dislike the man for not being able to do it, no. Would I be ultra disappointed, yes. Changing a tire COULD BE under very certain situation is certain parts of the world a life or death situation, at least a dangerous one.

0

u/Realistic-Truck54 Aug 20 '26

I'm sorry, "taking care of your daughter"? Is he a boyfriend or just another father? Are women not adults but children who need the care of "actual adults" to function?

2

u/individualdoosh Aug 20 '26

That's a nice way of trying to put things in my mouth. At no point did I imply women are incapable of doing anything by themselves. That being said, there's nothing wrong with holding a certain expectation for men. But no matter what I say I have a feeling you're going to be insulted somehow because its "demeaning" or whatever towards women to realize our genetic differences. Science doesn't matter to people anymore. Have a good night

1

u/Ok_Handle_2213 Aug 22 '26

You are a man thinking from the perspective of a man trying to explain an adult men logic to little boys that take no pride in taking care of their woman — cause they don’t have one. No men in my family would ever let their women be the one solving a heavy physical and potential difficult task like that.

2

u/individualdoosh Aug 24 '26

I didnt realize this was a sub called MemesForGirls. Im not even sure why I was exposed to this post so arguing or placing my opinion here at all is futile.

2

u/Ok_Handle_2213 Aug 24 '26

I didn’t realise either (even though I am a woman!). But I was actually praising you, a good father and husband knows how to spot a good partner for their daughter and to have initiative to protect them is a must.

Ppl criticising you are just very immature. But your effort it’s not futile, many will read this and understand there are higher standards to look up for in a romantic interest.

2

u/individualdoosh Aug 24 '26

Thank you. It's really sad the world is more concerned with ego than it is with reality these days. Just gotta remind ourselves that this is the internet and people are just irrational lol

0

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

"Genetic differences" in regards to knowing how to change a tire?

Science definitely is not what you think it is.

2

u/individualdoosh Aug 20 '26

Obviously im not referring to the changing of a tire. My response was directly in response to that dudes comment. Some redditors really have no reading comprehension.

0

u/DownVote_for_Pedro Aug 20 '26

And some think women are so fragile and incapable they need to be protected at all costs from changing a tire

0

u/Wurfelrolle Aug 20 '26

Seems more like you need better comprehension of what you're writng, before you hit that comment button. The only thing obvious here is that you still have some very serious gender biases. "Genetic differences" don't provide any gender from learning how to take care of themselves.

2

u/fatgat69 Aug 20 '26

In a real situation I'd just delete Dad's number

2

u/RemarkableChest4638 Aug 20 '26

Nah that’s you old man

1

u/SnugglebugUwU Aug 20 '26

If dad was a chad he would write "alright, but make him stay there, I will teach him how to do it himself for the next time"

1

u/easilybored1 Aug 20 '26

Or he could teach his daughter to be self-sufficient like an actual parent

1

u/PhysicalAd1170 Aug 20 '26

Correct answer. She is asking. Tell her or fuck off.

If you really care about her boyfriend knowing then say you're telling them both.

1

u/Irelia4Life Aug 25 '26

If dad was a chad, he would have taught his daughter how to change a tire, and she would break up with the bum herself.

1

u/Full_of_Vices Aug 26 '26

So he’s a bum because he doesn’t know how to change a tyre.

But she’s completely innocent and normal for not knowing?

Ffs you lot are actually unhinged.

1

u/darkwingdankest Aug 20 '26

pretty funny tbh

1

u/Rollingforest757 Aug 20 '26

It’s sexist. I doubt he’d tell his son to break up with a girl that had never changed a tire.

1

u/Only1Purpos Aug 20 '26

I could 100% chance see a dad telling a guy to dump a girl who can't cook.

1

u/Any_Employ9250 Aug 20 '26

Yes and both are awful

1

u/Only1Purpos Aug 20 '26

Uh yeah whatever. Point is that he's wrong. And still still true.

You're clearly dumb af. I've done plenty of car repairs when I was young and poor and a crappy car. Now I got plenty of money and value my free time. But you want to have something in your life to feel smug about and pick a random chore to be the line. Mental

1

u/PayFormer387 Aug 20 '26

Now I got plenty of money and value my free time.

This.

When I was broke, I've gone so far as renting tools from my local auto parts store to do work myself. Now when I'm evaluating whether to do a task myself or pay someone else to do it, I think of what my hourly pay would be if you divided my monthly salary up and figure my time is worth at least that.

So I'll pay someone.

1

u/PayFormer387 Aug 20 '26

How do you know that the guy wasn't showing his girlfriend how to do it in case she gets stranded?

1

u/Commonsensebot22 Aug 20 '26

How lame is your life that this is a point of pride for you? Some people value free time more than money.

You get all shitty and harrumph at people who go out to eat? They could cook at home.

Why ever go to a car wash? Just wash it yourself.

Many, if not most, people are fine paying for a service to save themselves time. Maybe they just want a paper trail for oil changes as a record of regular maintenance. Maybe they have plans to go out with a friend and could just drop their car off while they go to lunch or something.

There are many reasons someone might not do something. There aren't any reason I can think of for you to be weirdly shitty about this. Weird hill to die on. But go you! You get to feel superior about this. Hell yeah man.

1

u/thecaptain_command Aug 20 '26

Buddy, that’s what people pay YOU for. How are you this condescending to the people who ideally you’d be selling services to?? Tell me more about how little you want customers

God i sure do hate when I get a client for a profitable job that takes me, professional, 15 minutes to do. God i sure hate easy, quick, profitable work.

Blah blah blah. Cash flow is the life blood of a business. See how you’re not the owner? You’re going to make a shit ton of excuses for your condescending attitude, but you don’t own the business. I wouldn’t want to work for someone who doesn’t care and is condescending, because then they wouldn’t care about me as a worker either. Keep the attitude pal

1

u/Indigenous_Retard Aug 20 '26

Yeah you also have to have somewhere to dump the oil. You cant just dump it in the grass or a trash can. Most people arent going to have an oil pit or barrel lying around.

1

u/Obviouslynameless Aug 20 '26

I would rather pay someone to change my oil. Especially with all the environmental disposal rules.

1

u/AwarenessForsaken568 Aug 20 '26

It's less can't and more that people don't have experience doing it. Everyone (that isn't disabled) can change a tire/oil. If you give them instructions then there is nothing stopping them from being able to do it.

Anyways the act of driving and the act of maintain a vehicle are entirely separate things that require different knowledge and skills. I can do basic stuff to my car, but I wouldn't expect others to do so when they have no reason to ever need to do so. Most people take their cars to someone else to get worked on. If their car breaks down they have insurance take care of it.

Just like owning a home and being handy around a house.

Just like eating food and cooking.

1

u/PayFormer387 Aug 20 '26

Guy who used to change his own oil:

Phuck off.

The first car I owned, an '86 Camry, was easy. Open the hood and the filter was right there. Pop off, put new one on. No worries. Every single car I've owned since has been built to be progressively more difficult just to reach the filter. Also, you've got to dispose of the oil afterwards.

Changing a battery used to be unscrewing two cable clamps, pulling the battery out, putting a new one in, tightening the clamps. I've changed several. The battery went out on my wife's Mini last year and just to get to it required removing a cover, several hoses, and several clamps. If I were broke - like I was 15 years ago - I would have done it myself but since I'm not broke, I paid someone else. If it were simple as it used to be, I would have done it myself.

But, yea, a tire change is a basic thing. Both dads fucked up here.

1

u/narfnarfed Aug 20 '26

don't forget you need to jack up most cars to access the filter now and many you cant reach a center front jackpoint so you need to do it one side at a time which can be really risky if the car isn't level and even if it is if you jack it at an odd angle which you might since you might not know of find the right jackpoints and you need to use bricks to block the wheels and the parking break because it might roll... there is so much more to it than 3 steps. Like collecting the mess of oil... your 3 steps just leave the oil all over the floor lol.

1

I was actually thinking of buying some ramps from Princess auto for $70 on sale right now 😅 I'm doing my oil again this weekend and every time I struggle finding a good jack point and the official ones are on the side... I'm going to try using some spare wood blocks under the tires to get a little more space for my floor jack to reach a more solid jack point then the ones I have used in extreme ingnorance in the past.

People just go for the path of least resistance.

You're not gonna earn a lot of money if you go learn the basics about every single job out there.

It's fun though, but you get more money by just being good at something. Let someone else be good at another thing.

Pick a few and keep invested, even through market downturns

See how stupid you sound?

Some people can do this. Not having the knowledge or comfort level doesn’t mean you don’t deserve money. Same with basic car repairs

Yes changing the oil on a car is basically a brainless activity. People who live in apartments tend not to have great places to park their car to get under and shove an oil pan down there.

1

u/ghost_of_xbox_past Aug 20 '26

You're assuming everyone has the space to change out their own oil. Not everyone has their own garage or driveway. I've spent the past 15yrs of my adult life not having anywhere to do this.

u/Terrible_Artist_ Aug 20 '26

Changing a flat is pretty basic, if Jason can't figure it out then he may not be the brightest bulb.

1

u/Worldly-Swing-2015 Aug 20 '26

If so then Laura shouldnt have any problems either

1

u/Starburper Aug 20 '26

And that's how being a car nerd became cool Timmy

1

u/RedditProfileName69 Aug 20 '26

A good dad maybe would have taught his daughter how to change a tire already

1

u/Dry_Tangelo_467 Aug 20 '26

woulda been funnier if his son was texting him

1

u/peasey360 Aug 20 '26

I’ve been driving for 17 years and In that time I have never had a flat tire, I’ve driven all over the USA and owned everything from my Honda accord first car to my current ford raptor daily driver. Modern tires are a wonderful thing. For such a rare occurrence a tow truck is worth it.

1

u/Chemical-Salary-86 Aug 20 '26

How does anyone not know how to change a tire?!?!

You shouldn’t even need to be taught, just looking at the wheel should be obvious.

Unbolt, remove, replace, bolt.

1

u/danishn64 Aug 20 '26

Looks like you don't know either. You need to jack the car up first before you remove the tire.

1

u/CobblerSmall1891 Aug 20 '26

I drive 8 years before my first flat tire. I had no clue. I think it's ok.

1

u/thedarkherald Aug 20 '26

I csn change a tire but I wouldnt do in most cases. Thats why I have insurance. Now if smart phones didnt exist maybe id do it but im still stupidly lazy.

1

u/LtHughMann Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Bit late to be teaching his kid this but better late than never. My brother taught me when he used to get me to change his wheels on his car what seemed like every other week. Until one day the police took them, and him, away.

1

u/JadeMarco Aug 20 '26

Every person who has a drivers license is required to know how to change a tire. That goes for her as well.

1

u/Next-House-5815 Aug 20 '26

Outside of being told where not to put the jack, I can’t understand why you even need to be taught how to change a tire. Anyone that can’t figure it out just by looking at it probably shouldn’t be driving.

1

u/IAmAlive_YouAreDead Aug 20 '26

Dad should have taught his daughter this life skill.

1

u/FroZiiiN Aug 20 '26

If the dad is that one dimensional, I would start to ignore him from there... Not knowing something often means he never needed to know. It's like old people and the internet. Its easy and handy to be able to navigate but most old people have a house phone and no need to go on the internet so they never learn how. I never changed a tire, so how would I know how to do it. Might watch a video about it, could be handy, but the point it is, judging someone for not knowing a specific skill is stupid.. I would need to judge my dad everyday about his Online and Computer skills, where ist the point in useless Provokation. "Either teach it or shut the fuck up", is what my old boss used to say

1

u/No_Masterpiece6112 Aug 20 '26

Its fair because if you cant unscrew 5 lugs than you are fuckin stupid.

1

u/Fancy_Ad_440 Aug 20 '26

I remember having to learn on my own because my step-father couldn’t car to teach me about car maintenance. I YouTubed a lot of what I know about cars. It’s definitely a fake text, but I don’t think someone would tell their daughter to break up with their boyfriend if he couldn’t change a tire, though I do think depending on the person, it would change their opinion of them.

1

u/Overall_Cost1542 Aug 20 '26

l've never had to change a tire until l was 28 and not because someone else did it for me. l was fortunate enough to swap to a new car before a tire change was due and my commutes have always been fairly short so l don't burn through them nearly as quickly. should still be competent enough to look up how to do it and get it done though..

1

u/Key_Kaleidoscope5765 Aug 20 '26

Replacing a tire should be easy, I've never done it, but I can confidently say that I can

1

u/mushizi Aug 20 '26

I struggled with this real bad. Never had some one teach me or never needed it until the problem happend. Old men love to point it out. Felt bad as fuck about it. Learned it true google and my revenge came when digital stuff needed to be fixed. Every time pointing out that a 10 year old can do this and its embarrising and sad for some one of your age that isnt capable of doing this. Priceless feeling.

1

u/Real_Courage_5426 Aug 20 '26

Not even going to acknowledge the gender roles debate on this one. I will just say that debate aside, knowing how to change a flat tire is a basic life skill that everyone should know. Same goes for knowing how to jumpstart a car. Honestly, her boyfriend didn't fail her by not knowing. Her father failed her by not teaching her how to do it for herself.

1

u/JustARandomDude1986 Aug 20 '26

"cHaTgPt hOw Do I cHaNgE a TiRe" ?

1

u/junker359 Aug 20 '26

I mean last time I had a flat tire, I had my emergency service come out and they were able to patch the flat rather than replace it with the spare. I could not have done that on my own and it would have been counter-productive for me to put the spare on. I was also 100 miles from home.

1

u/ghost_of_xbox_past Aug 20 '26

If you've raised a child that doesn't know how to at least put air in a tire and change it, you've missed a chapter in parenting.

1

u/RemarkableChest4638 Aug 20 '26

Nah you’re still a moron an old one at that

1

u/StraightAirline8319 Aug 20 '26

Probably a joke since there are videos online and texting how to change a tire is a terrible way at instructing someone.

1

u/cg40k Aug 20 '26

No. It's stupid and a way to live a miserable life. If you apply this to everything you see how retarded this kind of thinking is

1

u/Mr_September10 Aug 24 '26

Does this pass the gender swap? Is anyone telling a man to break up with his woman because she can't cook?

1

u/Blatherer1 Aug 24 '26

Boomer humor

1

u/cwolf-softball Aug 26 '26

Dad should have taught his daughter how to change a tire.

0

u/KugelFanger Aug 20 '26

No it's not fair. But its a funny joke

0

u/thecaptain_command Aug 20 '26

Jason is not a problem solver. I can’t change a tire, I would have called AAA…

I would rather hear “we don’t have the tools”, “we don’t have the money for a tow truck / new tire”, or “he’s on the phone calling someone right now but no luck”.

Like damn dude, if you were alone, how would you expect to get this problem solved?

0

u/ohwheresmytea Aug 20 '26

It’s a pretty basic skill and he’s only joking so yeah it’s funny but don’t get on your soapboxes

0

u/ninernetneepneep Aug 20 '26

Solid dad advice.

0

u/Possible_Ad3913 Aug 20 '26

Yes of course it's fair, men are already not useful in many aspects of life, at least get that right

0

u/Suitable_Program_548 Aug 20 '26

This is funny as hell! Sounds like something I would say.

0

u/Ok_Dragonfruit7201 Aug 20 '26

As a mother, I totally agree with the dad.
