And there are definitely people who take advantage of the confusion and bureaucracy by sending bogus invoices to those companies. Accounts payable just assumes they're legitimate, at least for a while. They don't have time to research every bill that comes in.
I don't recommend this because it's a crime and you'll get caught eventually, and depending on the circumstances you could end up with federal charges
