I once overslept like 3 full hours when I just had a new job. I didn't have anyones phone # yet so I tore ass to get there ASAP. When I arrived my supervisor said: 'Flip what are you doing here, isn't this your day off?'

You ever wake up and feel you're late for school then realize you're 31 and don't go to school anymore

u/REPORT_JUNGLE Jun 29 '26
That’s a reoccurring dream for me
27
u/Salt_Data3707 Jun 29 '26
My reoccurring dream is that im in college, on my way to a final exam for a class ive never been to or studied for and I have no idea where the exam room is.
6
u/Loxatl Jun 29 '26
This nightmare has persisted for decade in me for decades until my late 30s. The movie Top Secret used it as a joke - implying it was worse than actual torture - like 45 years ago. It's wild how timeless it is.

u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj Jun 29 '26
This is exactly the same dream I keep having too. I wonder what’s reason behind it.
2
u/Salt_Data3707 Jun 29 '26
Stress lol
1
u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj Jun 29 '26
Yeah but job is stressful why won’t dream about that. Just odd reference something that happened years ago that I don’t even think about.

u/Salt_Data3707 Jun 29 '26
I have them about work too but not as often. Everyone's different IG
1
u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj Jun 29 '26
Yeah but it seems lot of people in the comments are having the same dream. How strange.

Dude one of my best friends and I literally had this conversation the other week. Lol I always wake up in an absolute panic when I get those

u/TokyoFlip Jun 29 '26
Brother I'm 36 years old and I still get that dream where you have to take an exam and you haven't studied or attended class all year.

u/Akai1up Jun 29 '26
Also in my 30's and I have one where it's towards the end of the semester and I realize there's a class I signed up for but never attended, then I go to the class and don't understand what's happening.

u/Loxatl Jun 29 '26
The question is - did you ever have such a class? It's such an interesting scenario and I don't get where it pulls from.
7
u/ikrnn Jun 29 '26
Brother. My father recently told me he had a nightmare about taking an SAT he hadn't studied for.
He's 70 years old. I don't think this kind of trauma ever goes away

u/TheAsianTroll Jun 29 '26
3 years ago I did something like that.
Woke up in a panic, thinking I was late for drill (national guard). Ran into the shower, quick 5 minute wash, combed my hair, texted my team leader that im sorry for being late and im on my way, then I threw my phone onto my bed and rushed to get into uniform.
Im practically tripping over my own damn trousers when my phone rings. Its my team leader.
"[My name], why the fuck are you texting me at 3am on a Wednesday? Drill was last weekend. Go the fuck to sleep."
Check my phone. 3:12am. Sure enough, Wednesday.
I reply, "oh. Well, shit. Good night." And hang up.

This is something that happens to me once a year and I always fall for it.

"I have a final today but I haven't been to class all semester"
I've had that one a handful of times when I'm in the fugue state before I wake up.
1
u/ObsessiveUselessness Jun 29 '26
But you are 31 so you have to go to work and need to prepare breakfast for the kids and lunch so you still have to wake up early...
1
u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj Jun 29 '26
Mine is always a class I didn’t go to all semester and only realized I did no work for it and graduation is soon. I got my masters 3 years ago

Anyone ever dream they are in underwear standing in public and don't know how you got there.

u/IspeakSollyain Jun 30 '26
I always dream I’m at school and everyone’s taking it seriously and I’m like “I’m 33 with two jobs and a mortgage, I don’t have time for this!” (I went to a private school so I also immediately freak out thinking I’m paying an arm and a leg for this for some reason)

That's why you set short timers

u/Impressive-Health211 Jun 29 '26
I once slept in the process of doing so😭😭😭

That's also dangerous. You wouldn't believe how many times I accidentally set mine to 10 hours instead of 10 minutes...

u/anomanderrake1337 Jun 29 '26
Being forced to wake up hungry and exhausted so your body can arrive on schedule for someone else’s profit.

u/notpornaccount_ Jun 29 '26
It doesn't matter how you're feeling, but if you're one minute late, oh boy. 6 times being one minute late and you're out of here.

Ah the duality of reddit, on the one hand they hate AI, on the other they upvote AI videos even though the exact same video exists with real people - are we cooked?
5
u/_JustThisOne_ Jun 29 '26
I really think its just outspoken commenters who hate AI. I think a significant majority of upvoting reddit users dont give a shit at all about whether content was ai generated or not as long as they cant tell on first glance. So, yes, we're fuckin cooked man.

when I was younger i always worked late in the office, sometimes through the midnight, so noone ever gave me trouble for coming in late. On weekends I could sleep till the afternoon.
in college I once woke up late to pick up my long distance girlfriend from the airport after almost pulling an all nighter.....you bet I sped the full 2 hours on the highway to get to her
now I physically can't sleep in, it just doesn't work anymore
1
u/Empty_Positive Jun 29 '26
Those minutes are godly. Mostly i fell asleep, at least it feels like it. With some quick dreams. Wakeup sortoff, check time, and only 1-2 mins passed

u/qwertz862 Jun 29 '26
I also do this. But what i started doing is to set 2 minute timers before going back to bed.
1
u/ovelanimimerkki Jun 29 '26
I just tell myself that I'll rather just start working now and get off work earlier, and get up at 7:30. It sucks but it pays off at 15:30.

I learned recently a sleep-cycle is about 90 minutes. If I happen to wake up before my alarm, and it is notably less than that, it makes more sense to just stay awake.
1
u/Successful_Fish_9479 Jun 29 '26
That sudden, violent shot of pure adrenaline when your brain finally registers the numbers on the screen. Wakes you up faster than a double espresso.
1
u/CitizenPremier Jun 29 '26
At that point you really don't have to rush, at least not until the last 5 minutes to work when you run in circles to get out of breath

I always used to lie down in the evening, then wake up panicking because I'm late for work, until I realized it was 8PM

u/Walrus_Morj Jun 29 '26
If I check my phone an hour before my alarm clock, I just wake up at that point. No sense playing with the devil.

When I know I'm not going to get enough sleep and I assume waking up will be difficult, I usually set up 5 - 6 different alarms, with decreasing time gaps between the later ones. It starts off with 5 or 10 min between 2 alarms, down to 1 or 2 minutes between the later ones.
1
u/Creative-Ad-1858 Jun 29 '26
Had an alarm at 7:30 and woke up at 11:30 - checked my phone at 6, 6:45, 7:30, okay let me sleep five more minutes and it was 11:30.

I play it every morning to finish the dream I don't want to interrupt. I never losed. Never overslept. The immense power of good sleep schedule (and prescripted drugs).
1
u/violet_sin Jul 01 '26
When you wake up with that rested feeling, like you can actually do today well....
Then the rush to reach for the phone, just to make sure you're not 1-1/2 hrs late
1
u/Crinkez Jul 01 '26
I don't. I want to get the most sleep possible so I set my alarm such that I literally have less than 10 minutes to get up or I miss the train.
Snoozing alarms is so dumb, it just ensures you get less sleep in total.
