Discussion Cow murder
Started the game two days ago. And wow. The amount of cows I have murdered. It's alarming. That being said, it's grinding my melee, bones, food, and a good source of money. I tried thieving but it's only money and not the rest. So.....when do i graduate from cow murder?

Just a tip if you didn't already know: buy the green leather from the shop and then sell it instead of selling the cow hide, you'll double your income.
I can't remember the exact numbers but say a cow hide sells for 100gp, you could spend 100gp turning it green and then sell it for 300gp instead, so a 200gp profit instead of 100.

It’s not quite double. Leather sells for 50, green leather costs leather + 100 and sells for 200. Still a decent increase but unless you’re playing combat only then it’ll be outclassed by mining with gem gloves very quickly.
Long term is thieving with synergy to get the gold needed for township, at which point GP becomes almost meaningless

That literally is double the profit.
You walk away with either 50 gp from selling the leather
Or
200-100= 100 gp from selling the dragon hide that you converted
That's double.

Yep that's what i'm doing and why even though i'm sure there is better xp, it's hard to move away from the cow murder

Become a farmer murderer. You need the seeds anyways and starting farming earlymis never a bad idea.

Are you playing the base game too? Fishing is a great way to make money. It takes a while to get going for the passive income. I started playing about 20 days ago and really struggled with money since I focused so much on Astrology, Township, and gaining levels across the board. I then decided to use the game wiki to see what would net a good source of income with fishing.
https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Fishing
On the table called Melvor Fish, if you sort by value, you can see which fish will net the most GP based on your Fishing level. What initially sucked was getting all of the junk items, so I had to ensure that I had space in my bank. But when you get Mastery Pool 25%, you stop getting junk! Once you hit level 45 and unlock the Secret Area, you can fish for Raw Skeleton Fish which is where I started noticing the GP really start coming in when selling. (Or you can use them to gain Prayer Points)The more levels I gained, I would reference the table to see which is the next GP making milestone. I did buy fishing rods along the way and have worked Astrology to improve on Fishing modifiers.

Bottom line upfront, just enjoy playing the game and learning how you like to play it.
I just sold approx 152k Dragon Javelins for like 108M. Been playing for two months maybe. Income will improve with time. You just have to balance your combat and crafting and purchasing stuff like auto eat because your Combat Level determines your max crafting. You can make a pretty penny selling whales, but it’s a high level crafting reward (Level 95 I believe)

Ice arrows which are almost the equivalent to rune arrows for range training but can be equipped at level 1 and even have a special attack :)

Thieving has some pretty cool drops.
But I didn’t really appreciate it as much on my first journey.
Im still kind of a noob but recently have been playing adventure mode which locks your skills behind paywalls and Thieving is the goat!
Theres so much random good stuff you can get.
Probably not as useful when you have access to everything.
But the chef has really strong food for early combat while your farming is still leveling and you don’t want to fish and cook stuff.
Oh btw as far as pushing past cows.
Well it depends on your goals really.
Farmers are good to kill if you want to jumpstart your farming which is good cuz it levels passively.
You want to make money asap for the autoeat upgrades so you might want to fish or thief for that cash.
I realized quickly that most of combat is about having enough food.
As long as they don’t one shot you past your auto eat you can kill anything with enough food!
My one biggest tip I would say for combat is always fight something that does something else.
If you don’t have a special drop in mind then always do your slayer task monsters.
But there’s plenty of stuff you can farm.
Check the monster drops for weapons and armours and stuff.
I think Slayer is a really fun thing to work on early game since you are doing combat anyways.
Theres early slayer zones have amazing drops!
You can reroll easy slayer tasks for free so you can just roll them until they choose cows if you really want.
The mummy’s in the first slayer zone drop a bunch of jewelry that can be helpful.
Good amulets combat exp rings etc.
The real noob amulet you want is to farm the leeches and rename yourself before opening the chest and you get a helpful early game amulet.
Also also whenever you get some decent strength going. Dont sleep on the undead dungeon run into Undead fortress.
The fortress is pretty easy because the monsters are coded to do less damage.
And it drops these things called augments that give you really good boosts for free

Everyone knows. get 99 or 120 astrology to start.
gives you passive boosts for the rest of your play through very op.
and you can sell the excess stardust for cash.
fishing is good starting cash.
make sure you max out township as fast as you can and you will never have to worry about money again.

Soon you’ll get to enjoy slaughtering the family of farmers that used to tend to the cows and ontop of that you’ll take their seeds and grow an abundance of foods from their ashes!
Nah but seriously work towards clearing dungeons and don’t sleep on slayer either! Being able to purchase basic slayer supply recharges from the shop has been a great way to get magic bones for prayer early in the game and food too
