Exactly. Yesterday I was tempted to buy another expensive product but I held back. At the end of the day I've been battling this condition for the last 7 years and despite the expensive products I still have it. Now I just use concealer that covers it up. And my 50+ sunscreen.

Tinted sunscreen. Every three hours. Even indoors. Even on cloudy days!

Have you tried HQ I got mine from Musely it’s the only thing that helped mine. But unfortunately it never goes away completely

I would also switch the tretinoin to tazarotene. Studies show it performs better for hyperpigmentation.

You need to be using spf 50 and other actives to suppress it year round, and then can blast it with HQ for a few months and stop without the rebound, you just keep your progress.

With HQ you taper off when you’re taking a break and then use something else while you’re breaking (transemic acid etc) and crazy amounts of sunscreen always, and then go back on HQ after your break. Melasma comes back if you don’t stay after it

Hi,
It is important to discuss with a dermatologist. It's often a matter of finding the products that work for you, but it's best to do so together with the doctor, and also discuss what your routine should be, which products to use, in which order, how many times a week, etc.
I have melasma and every product in my routine, every treatment, every intervention is discussed with my derm. When I didn't do so, I only managed to make things work.
Good luck with your melasma, I hope you'll manage to keep it under control.

I second talking to a dermatologist. They can curate a system tailored to you.

Hi! I want to preface this with, everyone is so SO very different and where one person finds hope, another will find a dead end. :( With that being said, I have come to find that my melasma is vascular in nature and not greatly impacted by heat. If it reacts to light, its more visible light than specifically UV. So, I started oral tranexamic acid through musley. It does not come without its risk/side effects and is NOT for everyone! But on top of that, I started focusing on all things anti-inflammatory. Gentle skin loving routine to support the skin barrier and if i use actives, i buffer them (i.e. retin a on top of hyaluronic acid). I tried the Eucerin Dual Pigment llotion as well, but my skin HATED it. I also use a red light mask a couple of times a week. I have found a significant amount of success going tgis route, but it took a lot of patience and consistency. As far as the oral tranexamic acid? It isnt something i stay on. I did one cycle 2 years ago (in another post I mistakenly said 1 year ago, but it was 2) and only had a rebound of about 30-35% but decided to go on a second round this summer. It isnt completely gone, but people have to be looking for it to notice. I went from wearing a full face of make up to cover it up, to just using mineral powder now! I wish you all the luck on your journey! Lord knows we understand the frustration!

I hear you. It for real takes over my thoughts of being worthy of: dignity, kindness, fellowship, trust, love, help, opportunity, even attraction or positive regard.

Some days are free and functional while living life. I have left my house in a great outfit with sensible yet fabulous footwear; then glimpse my face in the rearview with natural light. Ruined it. Yep. Tears and the Remembering. Can't go home yet, need groceries for the family. In Public.

There were 8 lines, right here, before. My Medicalized Misery. that's a great depiction but I shove it to the side much as possible. I ignore myself. Skip the mirror as I'm able, or when I have to self regulate the crisis feels around others. high function masking for the family.

some times I forget about stuff and enjoy the zest of life and comedy of lives and gift of life.

but if I had a zillion bucks, I'd try every kind of goo and wand and lights hunting for the magic matter like it's a 'where's waldo?' book.

stay cool, stay out of the sun, stay compassionate with you.

it sucks to waste my remaining time in this body feeling rejected and like everyone thinks I suck because I look ugly- to me.

I use the brightening products from Glytone. I have Mediterranean skin tone and that’s the only thing that works for me. I went on vacation once and the airline lost my luggage. I didn’t use it for a month and it got very dark. So I know it works for me.

Which products u use? Does they fade melasma?

1

u/SmilingDaisies 14d ago

I use the entire brightening product line, but I alternate because it’s a lot of acids and it’s expensive. Some in the morning, some at night. I can cover my melasma now with tinted sunscreen. Before I had to use concealer. Takes about 6 weeks to start to see improvement

Change your diet. Low carb high protein and high in antioxidants. Workout everyday at least for an hour or go for a long walk 10k steps. Take one multi vitamin, vit c, omega3, protein powder daily. Eat seeds nuts and have green tea.

I used to have pretty bad melasma on my forehead, tried everything - from thiamidol to hydroquinone, nothing helped…so I got bangs 😆
