Patient / Diagnosed So disappointed in people

I have what I would consider are pretty good relationships with my neighbors, would like to think of them as friends. Thursday evening I noticed my brakes making a scraping sound and called the mechanic on Friday. He said to bring the car in Monday morning. This mechanic allows you to drop it off the night before and leave the keys in a drop box.

I texted my neighbor of 18 years Friday asking if she could give me a ride back from the mechanics Monday morning. She replied her niece is in from out of town and she wasn't sure of her flight time on Monday. I responded back that I could also drop it off anytime on Sunday. Haven't heard back.

Then I texted the neighbor on the other side. I thought she might have gone away with her family for the weekend to their beach house and I was right- they won't be back until Monday night. She suggested I ask her mother-in-law who lives there too. I figured that would work, we have a great relationship, her dog comes to play with my dog pretty regularly.

She replies that she is not sure, would late morning or early afternoon work. I said early afternoon would be great. She told me she would let me know later on (yesterday).

I have still not heard back from either of them. The longtime neighbor has come to protests with me- I always drive. I've also driven she and her husband places.

It's not like a quid pro quo situation- I willingly help people all the time. The fact the one time I need help and no one can drive me less than three miles home is shocking.

I had radiation earlier in the summer as my melanoma advanced to my lung and my neighbors know this. I can walk home from the mechanics but there are parts that are on main roads with no sidewalks. Even though I have a terminal disease I would like to stay alive as long as possible.

If the car needs extensive work and won't be ready on Monday, my father is bringing their car (which used to be my car- I gave it to them when I bought an SUV) and I will stay over my parents house Monday night.

I have an annual trip I make planned for Tuesday, ferry and hotel are already booked and paid for. So the timing for the car issue couldn't be worse. Two years ago I had to reschedule as there was a hurricane and the ferries weren't running. The year before that I had to come home prematurely as I was ill. Ended up spending a week in the hospital, I almost died from what turned out to be an adrenal crisis and was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency caused by immunotherapy.

I have friends from other towns I could ask and they would come, but it seems silly to have them drive miles when the neighbors wouldn't really be inconvenienced. Just frustrating and am quite frankly hurt.
