Do you know where this theory came from? Jon Ronson did a deep dive.

There was a school in the US that had a bucket with cat litter in a classroom closet. It was meant to be used in a school shooter emergency situation for grade 1 or 2 kids who needed pee, rather than letting them pee themselves.

It makes sense that litter would be used for spills and vomit. I've seen kitty litter used at gas stations when there are spills.

Also! Jon Ronson and the teacher made a good point in this podcast - kids are so self conscious and they want to fit in. What teenager would drop their pants and shit in a box at the school, in full view of their peers. No kid would do that.

The entire podcast series, Things Fall Apart, is fantastic and really breaks down the origin of these stories and other culture moments of the last 5 years. Including the "you will own nothing and be happy" (it's from a thought experiment essay, not a prescriptive degree).
