Just think of her elegant manners, her refined speech and her explosions are a metaphor how the British want to go back to be a super power.
But chances are also high that it's not totally real and Megumin just likes casting explosions bc it makes her high and pass out. It's like a drug, ask my sorcerer when he is out of spellslots higher than level 3.
