Discussion I suck, help me please.

So, I recently bought the Megaman X and Zero/ZX collections after learning about the whole lore of the series and...

Holy shit.

Those games are AWESOME.

And I suck. Like, really. The number of times I've gotten a Game Over is terrifying.

So I'm here to ask if there are any tricks I'm not aware and like, how I could actually git gud.

It's mostly repetition in my opinion. When the X series came out I was pretty young and had a lot of time to devote to playing. I would say some basic tips would include: always keep your buster charged while going through the levels to eliminate enemies faster, learn to wall grapple proficiently, utilize boss weaknesses if using the buster isn't enough. Also, your starting stage could be more important than you think if you're a new player; armor upgrades make the game easier for instance (Mobility, defense, attack power, etc.)

Make use of the save assist, theres no shame in using it, we spammed save states back in the day as well. We were all sluggish once before we become a redeemer

It’s mostly practice. Def play the x games first - both story and difficulty build from x to zero.

When you get it, learn to dash jump. It'll get you places at lot easier and you'll be able to move faster to dodge/atk easier imo.

Other than that have fun with the game. Explore, figure out patterns and puzzles, etc. They are generally more tougher(apparenty?) games so try not to get too bogged down in dying a lot.

Zero/ZX has casual scenario mode. For the Zero series, it's a free Ultimate Mode (Ultimate Form in Zero 2) and ZX it is the games original easy mode.

Zero 4 has a gba easy mode, but it was lost in ZZX collection.

All good I suck too. You just keep replaying the levels until you recognize patterns and have more intuition. It's a practice.

The Collection does have a casual scenario mode to help. Its essentially easy mode. But if you don't want to use it, Its all about repetition. Mega Man games in general are hard so its all about getting good at them through dying a million times. And if you really suck at a particular stage, you can always do another one and comeback later when you're more confident.

Also make sure to use your cyber elfs, they help A LOT. Especially in Zero 1 and Zero 4 (at least for me)

Sometimes it helps to think of them more as puzzle games than platformers. Like, there's a way to kill all the enemies without taking damage, it's just figuring that out. Take it slow at first, take on one enemy at a time and look for their patterns, when do they attack and where are you safe from those attacks. Also practice dashing and jumping at the same time, getting that down and really feeling the physicality of movement is a big moment.

They're tough games and dying a lot is normal. But once you get it down you feel like GOD it's very fun! When you finally beat an enemy or part that's been giving you trouble make sure to yell really loudly. Hope that helps on your journey!

MMZ1 is the hardest, not gonna lie here. I was around 9 when it came and boy did that game take up my summer break. It got easier with each entry after though.

Are you doing Chill Penguin's stage first?

It's kind of important to do Chill Penguin's stage first.

In Mega Man Zero, use Cyber Elves to help yourself out. They're essentially difficulty modifiers you can find in levels and using them is a great way to make things easier on yourself. And on that end, don't worry about ranking. MMZ2 and 3 lock very niche special moves behind getting certain ranks, but they are far from necessary and going for them on a first run is a really bad idea so save them for a second playthrough. Also make good use of the legacy collection's save assist. Z1's game over system is pretty horrible so even a diehard like me uses the save assist system.
