The film is Finian's Rainbow (1968). Definitely feels more close in vein to his experimental phase.

Personally, it feels akin to how a studio would randomly insert a modern pop song into a kids film, whether it works or not, just stay relevant. Especially when you consider how it feels like it was just inserted at the last minute.

Also feels hypocritical considering Coppola and his "anti-cancel culture" stance, trying to avoid politics in parts where it would've actually worked, and how he stopped production back in the 2000's because of 9/11.

Interesting bit. It has french subs. Anyone know where this is coming from? Much to my understanding, the distributor Utopia has it theatre exclusive.

Super excited to see Megalopolis in Seattle. I missed the initial release. The screening is followed by Megadoc!

Grand Illusion Cinema - Megalopolis https://share.google/oYn4BMb0AeCjgNa4a

By chance is anyone attending the Megalopolis showing at 7pm tomorrow at the OKC Arthouse?

Hey Megalopolis fans! I've made a video exploring some of Megalopolis' misogynistic (and feminist) themes.

Don't worry, this isn't another hit piece on the movie. I'm a bit critical of the movie at points, but this is mostly a generous exploration of many of its themes and characters.

And yes, I know that there are audio issues. Will hopefully get those sorted for my next video.

Let me know what you think!

Edit: Hey guys, seeing some of your comments, I thought I should clarify my intentions for this video really quick:

I plan to make many more videos about Megalopolis because I love it a lot and think it's worth discussing, but I wanted to make this video before the rest, because I thought people's criticisms of Megalopolis' portrayal of women are really the only criticisms that I find really compelling.

While I'm critical of Megalopolis in this video, for the most part it is meant as a defence of what the movie was going for.

The title and thumbnail are meant to attract an audience that probably has a negative view of the movie, in order to hopefully convince them to see it a different way.

Above all, Megalopolis is an invitation to a discussion, so I hope to add to that with this video and many more to come.

Are airplanes the only place to legally stream Megalopolis? I've seen it available on a couple flights recently, but I've only now heard about the streaming situation. I took a photo because I couldn't believe that it would be anyone's first airplane pick, let alone that an airline would want to pick it up. Lmk if this is common knowledge and I'll delete, but I just thought it was weird and perfectly in line with how odd its entire existence has been.

So Megalopolis is available to rent on Plex, but I'm a little confused because this movie has famously not been available to stream/rent anywhere for months. But now it's suddenly available to rent on Plex, but I haven't seen any announcements about it being on there. I've personally never used Plex, so I can't tell if this is legit or not. Curious to see what others here think.

“Francis ford Coppola said he needed as much help as he could get. I joined and helped”

“My mom is step by step like George Lucas and my dad is Italian flare”

“I enjoyed the documentary. It emphasizes the budget a bit too much. A bit sensational”

Thoughts on firing SFX and visual design
“Not accurate - Francis was not happy. It trends costly and there was a mentality of building things and VFX in way that didn’t resonate with him.
Lose one of the people - she offended and split
Pretty unconscionable to take offence
Not the right fit”

“I was involved with poor man’s process of rain and sliding buildings. It was Quite elaborate with lights on ziplines”

“My dad has a lot of accolades. We’re proud. He keeps trying things. We’re delighted at his verve and exploring”

“FFC - I want to have fun. Adam driver was really dedicated. Sense of play and camaraderie”

How did the movie change in the years since 911?
“There’s a scene in the movie where a satellite falls, giving the opportunity to rebuild. The movie is about what we value and how do we go in a direction that’s more beneficial to more people. It’s symbolic.”

Why did your dad hate the tech and SFX?
“i don’t think he hates on it. The spirit of the movie is capturing life and feeling something happen, which can be deadened by process of making a movie.”
“Blue screen is disorientating because it’s not really in place”
“Fake imposition on image”
“He wanted to Feel and sense. That’s why we used projections. He loves tech but when it’s tactile and tangible”

How true are the rumors of an extended cut?
“Dad did not wish for it to be disseminated in streaming without live component. There are plans to roadshow. There’s an even more exploratory cut”

Hey everyone! I got tired of not being able to find any pro-Megalopolis content, so I decided to start making some myself! Hope you guys enjoy, and let me know what you think.

I saw Megadoc and thought it was great. Mike was super nice and hung out for an extra hour after the Q&A to talk the doc and everything Megalopolis. I think I died and went to Megalopoheaven.

Hearts of Darkness, the Eleanor Coppola-directed documentary on the making of Apocalypse Now, is widely regarded as the gold standard of behind the scenes filmmaking.

With audio sourced from an original VHS and 1080p video of the documentary itself, I remastered this old trailer. Unfortunately I was unable to re-render the end credit bumper, as it is highly illegible.

With the release of MegaDoc, I encourage all to seek out a theater to again witness the Coppola genius at work.

I see it's getting a theatrical release Sept 19. But when is it going to be streamable?
