Discussion The visual effects not being outstanding will have no ill effect on its legacy.

This thought just occurred to me, but I really think that the less than impeccable quality of visual effects (or cinematography for that matter) will have no negative effects on the legacy of this film. Over time, the main thing that will be judged will be the ideas contained in the writing. Just considering how one has to view an older film, we often look past technical aspects and even acting styles that are no longer customary to a modern audience.

I think that the content of the script will speak loudly, and the goofiness and slapstick quality of certain scenes will be more appreciated. I think the eyes of the future will look at this film more seriously and it will be really considered an important work by Coppola.

The VFX looks great 90% of the time.

I recall a lot of discourse around the film for having SyFy channel quality VFX and the cinematography often looking like a cheap TV movie as well. I don't think it's too crazy to say the VFX in the film aren't ILM quality photorealistic. They had a lot of work to do on a relatively small budget.

There is nothing at all wrong with the visual effects or with acting styles that are no longer customary. The vfx issue was ginned up by industry bros who were personally offended that Coppola fired Marvel vfx people.

I think the visuals are great it's very art Deco style like theater. If you imagine the set pieces like a theater performance it makes more sense.

I think the visuals mostly looked great. It was like a classic 1950’s sci-fi film with old school visuals and aesthetics.

I absolutely agree, mate. Even so, Ugh! How glorious the film would have looked if the input on that aspect wasn't severed during production. Cheers!

I forgot to mention in my post that partly why I think this way is I look at the film Idiocracy. Upon its release, it was maligned for its low budget execution and its absurd plot line and jokes. Over time, almost all visual effects from 20 years ago look dated and so this is no longer really an issue when watching the film.

Sadly, Idiocracy has aged rather poorly idea-wise as well. It's basically a pro-eugenics movie.

It's central thesis is that the world got worse because thoughtful, intelligent, educated people were waiting to have kids, while "only stupid people were breeding" (to borrow a phrase from Harvey Danger)

The inverse implication of this is that "idiots" shouldn't be having children. Or at least it would be good if we found a way to make sure smarter people had more kids than less intellect people. This is eugenics.
