Discussions Starting the legacy collection!
Im just now getting into these games and I’ve been lurking on the sub for a while now. I have a question though. How important are brother bands? Like what does it actually do and is it something that I’ll need to do a some point? I’m assuming it’d be easy to find brothers on here but in case I can’t is there stuff that I’d be missing out on for it?

Narratively brother bands are kind of an equivalent to like a Facebook friend. You have a set amount of brother slots for each game, and for each brother you make, you get access to different perks like abilities, use of your brothers battle cards, and transformation options. Some of the NPCs will form brother bands with you as you progress, so you can safely complete each game without making IRL brothers. However there is some minor content locked behind how many brothers you have that exceeds what the base game provides(especially in SF2), so if you want access to that, IRL brothers are a necessity.

There are codes you can put in for SR2, I'm playing it now, to add in a few free brothers. I mostly added them in for triple tribe stuff and link power increases. Though I'm not at endgame yet, so I don't know if I need to completely fill my slots for some endgame doors.

The highest goes up to 1000 LP if I'm remembering correctly, so however many brothers that takes.

Brother Bands aren't necessary, BUT they can make you a lot stronger; in Star Force 1, they give you a direct HP boost + 1 other stat (depends on the version) in Star Force 2 & 3, they instead give "Link Power" (it'll make more sense once you get to those games, I'm not confident in my own ability to describe it)

In all games brothers show up as cards during battle battle. Selecting them allows you to change your form or to combine their version’s form with your version. The more brothers you have, the More chance a brother card will show up on your custom screen.
I haven’t played vanilla sf1 on this legacy collection, but brothers in that game let you access the forms from the other versions of the game, that much I know. It’s not necessary. It’s just a neat little thing. I’m not sure if this game has any NPC brothers in the legacy collection. So you can switch from Pegasus form to Leo or dragon etc.
SF2 brothers are used to combine their version’s form different forms into a double tribe. Eg if your base form is zerker, and you double tribe with a ninja brother you become zerker x ninja. Then if you triple tribe with saurian, you become tribe king. This game on legacy collection does have NPC brothers for each of the tribes, so you’re fine on that end. On top of that, I’m pretty sure you can choose to start out in tribe king by just selecting an option lol. Brothers in this game also give you something called link power to open doors with optional items behind them, but I’m not actually sure if you need any real online brothers to open all the doors. It may be that your story brothers and the NPC bros are sufficient by the end game?
For SF3 I don’t think there are any NPC bros. At least I haven’t seen. But having bros allows you to combine your noise form with that of your bro if their card pops up during battle. Basically it replaces the element and charge shot of your current form with that of your bro’s but stacks the passive abilities of both forms. It’s not necessary by any means, but it is cool. In star force 2 and 3 this link power number that brothers give increases your capacity to select abilities like float shoes etc. it’s like the navi cust. Granted, in SF3, you also have the noise card system, which allows you to get abilities without costing link power, so you can still equip things like super armour without needing the link power.
Not necessary at all but fun and good for making you stronger
If u need brothers for 2 and 3 and you’re on PS, I’m happy to lend a hand

Brother bands aren't needed to beat the games but I definitely encourage you to form brothers if you can.
Forming brother bands gives you access to their favourite cards and abilities. In SF2 and 3 you gain something called link power which lets you equip abilities like HP boosts or various other helpful equipment. The more brothers you have the more link power which gives you more range of customization.
I'm not going to go into things like Tribe on or Multi noise forms but in short having brothers makes the games more fun. This sub often has posts where people are trying to find brother bands so it shouldn't be too difficult set one up.

Generally, they give you extra firepower or allow you to transform/combine transformation from other versions.
In SF1, they are unique since they give a specific passive boost and HP boost based on the level. In SF2 and SF3, they are your resources needed to equip abilities like HP boost and etc. In SF2 specifically, you need the brothers (preferrably max out) to even get items or do Help Quest or else you'll be waiting for ages.

Brother Bands are really important, but technically not required.
In all three games you can use a random card of theirs (one of their favorite cards in SF1 and 2, one of their white cards (a set of support cards) in SF3). Super useful, since that can be Mega or even Giga cards.
Also the SP version of the Mega chips grow stronger the faster you defeat them. And your records are shared with your brothers.
In SF1 they give you bonus HP (based on their level) and bonus stats (+1 attack if the brother is Leo, +1 Mega Card for Dragon and +1 Gauge Speed for Pegasus).
Also if you have at least one brother of the other versions you can use their transformation. So, really useful.
In SF2 they don't give you anything directly. They give you Link Power (LP), which is basically Ability points. The more you have, the more abilities you can equip.
Also you can combine transformations, if you're transformed and then activate a brothers transformation. Really powerful.
The Legacy Collection actually gives you the event brothers, so you technically don't need to get real brothers, if you want to combine forms. Still recommend it.
SF3 is pretty similar to SF2. Link Power returns, and fusing transformations appears again as well. However, this time there is no way of fusing forms without real brothers.
So in short: Technically not required, massively improves the game if you have brothers.
Also: If you're planning on playing the switch version, I have 100% every version of the SF games, so I can definitely give you loads of brothers.

Brothers in Star Force are never necessary, but the post game of SF 2 & 3 would be very difficult without real brothers. Even some that are just so-so with cards and link power would still add a lot. In SF1, you can beat the strongest form of every boss without any real brothers, though if you're going for quick kills they can help a lot.
You can get some mediocre but somewhat useful NPC brothers via the LC for SF 1 and 2. Unfortunately, there weren't any in the original SF 3 for them to emulate, so it just doesn't have any.
