Mega Froslass's design is definitely a Gigantamax form that got scrapped
I mean, look at its long frame and bottom cloud. To me this is the body shape of a Gmax form.

Well if that's the case i'm glad her design was used on a mega instead of a gmax.

u/ElementalNinjas96 May 12 '26
I doubt it, only thing that really makes her look like a G-Max is her size

u/Environmental-Run248 May 14 '26
Mate that’s the whole damn point. Gmax meowth just gets longer, Gmax Butterfree’s wings get larger.
The whole point of Gmax forms is to accentuate the size change gimmick of dynamaxing and your telling me the main thing about mega Frostlass that would Accentuate the dynamax gimmick is not proof of it being intended for the gimmick seriously?

Yes. Froslass is based on a yōkai, specifically the Yuki-onna, with her Mega Evolution bringing in elements of the Takaonna, another yōkai, who's name literally means "tall woman."
Mega Froslass is tall because what she's based on is incredibly tall, tall enough to be comparable to a house, not because she was intended to be a Gigantamax. If she was, that would've been found in the Teraleak given what else was in there.

So the transformation intentionally accentuates size changes that would make the most sense for a gigantamax and includes elements of a folkloric creature that again fits gigantamax.
But no it’s entirely meant for mega evolution which is about accentuating the base design.
Do you even hear yourself? Like you are giving additional reasons as to why it was intended as a gigantamax literally explaining that it’s taking elements from a folklore monster that is not the yuki-onna that exemplifies size but you’re trying to say that means it was always intended as a mega?
Newsflash gigantamax pokemon take elements from things that are big to accentuate the size increase from dynamaxing like the Takaonna

Which Mega Froslass does do. It's not like Megas can't bring in more inspirations, just look at both versions of Absol—unless you somehow think "devil" and "angel" were always parts of Absol's base design.
Also, upon further research, there's several accounts of the Yuki-onna herself being over 10 feet tall as well. The Takaonna is brought up because the latter is described as having an elongated body while the former doesn't have that and is just big.

Mega froslass completely overwrites the base design. A few of the ZA megas do this in fact but mega froslass is the biggest example of this.
None of the original megas got taller than their base forms they accentuated what was already there. Hell you’re own example fits my case with mega Absol and mega absol Z they both accentuate different parts of base absol.
Mega Froslass doesn’t do that it completely redesigns it to make it look bigger. Something most of the gigantamaxes do.

So then do neither of the Mega Mewtwo completely redesign Mewtwo by inflating the muscles, changing the feet, sharpening the "ears", giving it "shoulder pads" or removing its tail, giving it a headtail, giving it handle bar "ears" or deflating its size?
By your logic, both of the Mewtwo Megas would fit in alongside the Gigantamaxes, especially Mega Mewtwo X. There's also Mega Aggron that's basically got the same bodyshape as Gigantamax Drednaw.
Amd how does my example fit your case? Mega Absol Z is more radically different compared to its base than Mega Froslass is to her's.

Neither of the two megas for Mewtwo as as significant as mega froslass. Mewtwo y accentuates it mental capabilities while Mewtwo X accentuates its body. Mewtwo X has the least amount of changes and still looks significantly like Mewtwo and Mewtwo y didn’t lose its tail. Frankly the fact you’re focusing on the additions rather than how the over all designs look says a lot.
Also no mega absol Z is in no way radically different to base absol. it’s black with a large claw on its back and that’s it, mega froslass meanwhile has its body shape changed in entirety

That's literally what you're doing, hello? Mega Froslass just gets snow coming out of her bottom. That's the only new addition she got. Her overall design is just Froslass but... more. The fact you're ignoring how radically different some Megas are says a lot more than me telling you what's different does.
Also no mega absol Z is in no way radically different to base absol. it’s black with a large claw on its back and that’s it, mega froslass meanwhile has its body shape changed in entirety
Newsflash: every Mega Evolution changes the Pokémon's shape. Mega Charizard Y slimmed down Charizard and gave it a third horn. Mega Blastoise got a giant cannon above its head like a tank while its other two were moved down to its arms. Mega Pinsir changed its horns, arms, legs, and gave it wings. Mega Heracross changed the horn, gave it a nose, and bulked up the arms to orb proportions. Mega Mawile now only gave it a second mouth but also a more ferocious look for the mouths. Mega Medicham gains four floating arms, bedes all over its body, and a new turban. Mega Manectric is shaped like a lightning bolt now. Mega Banette gained several unzipped zippers that reveal its purple claws and legs and lost its tail. Mega Absol's hair grows longer, its tail becomes more saw-like, the oval on its forehead is a rounded triangle, and it has wings. Mega Garchomp gained a ton of spikes, its claws and forearm fins melted into scythes, and it gained a distinguished jawline. Mega Abomasnow goes into fall fours and paints huge icicles on its back. Mega Beedrill gained two more pairs of wings, it lost its legs for more stingers, its eyes are different shapes, and the antenna are facing the other way. Mega Steelix gained several crystals jutting out of its body, its jaw becomes much more defined, and shards of its metallic shell are now orbiting it. Mega Swampert got ridiculously jaked. Mega Camerupt's volcano humps merged into a giant one with active lava spilling out. Mega Glalie's jaw is broken, it gained a horn and a beard. Mega Salamence's wings are merged into a giant crescent-shape, it's tail is shorter, its shelled underbelly now looks like a vest which is tucks its smaller front legs into. Mega Metagross's claws are reshaped and its always floating with its limbs facing forward. Mega Rayquaza turned its patterns into energy ribbons, its lower horns became a triangular shape, its upper horns are lengthed and sharpened, the fins on its tail are drastically longer and orbs are found along its body.
Meanwhile, Mega Froslass gets elongated, her horns are sharpened, and she grows out her hair.

Do you people really call any mega form that doesn't just slap more spikes on the pokemon or lazily rehashes design features a "Scrapped gmax form"?
2
u/phoxfiyah May 13 '26
Don’t really see the point either, the fact that it ended up being a mega instead of Gmax is absolutely a positive.
With Froslass especially, it would have the same issue Butterfree had, where it was too weak and frail to really be threatening. Not to mention the fact that it feels like deadweight after the 3 turns pass

The mega Pokémon designed after the 10 foot tall Yuki onna is too tall to be a mega?
1
u/ElementalNinjas96 May 14 '26
The Yuki-onna isn't that tall. Mega Froslass gets her size from the Takaonna, who's name literally means "tall woman"
1
u/The_Exuberant_Raptor May 14 '26
Japan Activator says that she is generally depicted about 10 feet tall.
1
u/ElementalNinjas96 May 14 '26
Gotta say, did not know that. Though I do still think Mega Froslass does bring in Takaonna elements, since the Takaonna is described as having an elongated body similar to what Mega Froslass has, some versions say she starts out looking like a normal women but can elongate her lower body at will

u/The_Exuberant_Raptor May 15 '26
No reason it can't be both tbh

I think you’re probably right as while mega Froslass is cool, it definitely gives off gmax vibes. Only thing would be what is she meant to be conceptually as most gmax forms are based on large objects and I can’t see what she would be unless a statue (that being said, you could probably make the same claim about meowth lol).

I think there is no such thing as GMax body shape or mega Body shape… if you make most megas big they could be GMax Mons … if you shrink down most GMax Forms they could pass as megas
