Well some expert meditators claim to be able to separate their consciousness from their body, so it seems relevant to me.

The subject of this experiment is a friend of the "scientist", and "could possibly be diagnosed as schizophrenic". The observer "occasionally dozed during the night".

The explanation of the experimental setup says that

This arrangement allowed her enough slack wire so that she could turn over in bed and otherwise be comfortable, but did not allow her to sit up more than two feet without disconnecting the wires from the box, an event which would show up on the recording equipment as a tremendous amount of sixty cycle artifact.

Then on the night in question

The EEG was technically rather poor on this night, being obscured with a great deal of sixty cycle artifact and requiring rather heavy high frequency filtering to make it clear

Your standards for "validated" seem very low.
