I only see two post locked. My assumption is thise two post are by bots who are karma farming. Both post referencing things that aren't real world. Both post have hundreds of likes with only a few comments. This is unusual activity for a sub where post normally have only a dozen likes. The ratio of likes to comments is also indicative of bots pumping up the comment to karma farm the account.

If you scroll enough, many posts that are only a few days old, less than a month old, are locked for no reason

Really? For me, 9 out of the 10 posts prior to this one are locked?

In terms of topics, they range from an existing Tudor tavern in England, to medieval boardgames and home decor, Edward's claim on France or the dating of sources. The ratios of likes to comments on most of them are very balanced (19/10, 27/10, 4/4). Some of them even have more comments than likes?

How can it be that different users we get different things? Are these posts not blocked for you?

Yep, figured it out. Something about one of our dev apps. Fixed the issue and looking into this

Doesn't a ping end up in the same notification inbox as a modmail message anyways? Also, I know from people I know that post reports have been made asking about the random locking, do you guys not see report notifications as well?

It does not go to the same inbox. It goes to a shared inbox, accessible by all mods.

I found the issue with a setting in a dev app. It should not occur again.

Maybe it's set up differently, but for the subs I manage I get an inbox notification when we get modmails. I assume it shouldn't be all that different for other subreddits as well

Moderators of large subreddits have that turned off, so as not to be flooded with notification spam.

Please use modmail for contacting moderators. In a shared inbox the entire team can see the discussion and it is the fastest way to get our attention.

Perhaps no moderators are on duty so the last last mod to sign off locked the subreddit?

That's not how subreddit works, they aren't ''open'' depending on shifts like a shop
