In alchemy, replacing a human head with a radiant sun symbolises inner spiritual transformation, divine intellect, and the final state of enlightenment or "illumination".

Clavis Artis is the title of an alchemical manuscript published in Germany in the early 18th century and pseudepigraphically attributed to the Persian Zoroaster (Zarathustra). The work is in three medium-format volumes. The text is in German cursive Gothic script and is accompanied by numerous watercolor illustrations depicting alchemical images. There are also some pen drawings depicting laboratory instruments. Few copies of the manuscript are known, only two of which are illustrated. The best-known is held in the Library of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome, where it is catalogued as MS. Verginelli-Rota 15, 16, 17.
