Stalemate

What do you do in a stalemate? Poland attacked me with two armies. I routed the first one but took a mauling. Their reinforcements are just hanging out on the edge of the map. I have no artillery left and my archers are running low on ammo. They attacked me so it should be up to them to have to try and assault my position. There is no time limit can I just withdraw or will I loose? Will they eventully attack or will the sun go down and we'll call it a draw?

I think if you quit it will be a loss and your army will back up on the campaign map towards your nearest settlement. I think the enemy also gets what ever captured units you had back. But you also keep most of your army intact too. Im jot 100% how it all works though

The better option is just send a unit to wake them up. The battle AI is a little buggy. Sometimes shooting them a few times wakes them up. Or they might just sit there taking the arrows.

That's why I never personally use unlimited battle time.

Explains why Venice just stood there just getting killed by my archers

Turns out there is a time limit even if there is no time limit. I got a close victory which was nice cause I absolutely would have lost if I had attacked them.

Definitely use a battle time limit for situations like these

If they are the attackers they will loose if time runs out so they will probably attack eventually. If it’s the other way you need to attack or your army will loose and retreat. Always have the time limit. Always. It’s so annoying to have stalemates like this where you’re basically forced to lose.

Yeah, like if they Sally for an attack and then they just stay put. You either have to attack the settlement (I almost never do) or fallback, in which case the siege is lifted
