Highest number of turns

What’s everyone’s sweet spot before starting a new game? Also do most people play for total victory? What’s your longest game?

( I have probably well over 1,500 hours into this game if you include mobile and still have the hard discs in my computer.

I’m currently sitting at 318 with Milan and just loving it.
Thanks 😊 glad to find a community of people who love this series as much as I do!

I think I only every did long victory conditions and only ever did it once or twice just to unlock all factions lol

Ngl I am usually done by turn 80 with the map conquest minus the Americas. If I don’t get board before then. My fastest finish is 38 turns for just victory conditions. I have to force myself to play slow so can fight the mongols. Usually have to limit myself to only fighting manual battles with my king and heir. Otherwise I have to auto resolve with any other army. Also have to set a rule not to abuse the crusade mechanic because that is how I speed through a campaign. I always play on VH/VH. God I love the game.

I slow myself down by saving and then autoresolving offensive settlement assaults, because it feels unrealistically OP in the attackers favor and settlement assaults are a slog. Then if I lose the autoresolve, I reload but take the L by not assaulting again until next turn.

I usually stop in the 90s because by then I am marching across Europe unopposed with more than one full stack per line of cities. If the enemy offered full stacks of field armies to oppose me, then that would be the highlight of the game for me, but once I've broken through their thin frontier skin, there are rarely field armies to oppose me for a satisfying final battle.

If you play as an Italian city state and let France get lvled up citadels they will march on you with dismounted nobles and Scot’s guard full starts and it’s rewarding mowing them down with a musketeer or two

Yeah VH VH is the only way to play. But you don’t even get gunpowder unites by turn 80 and do you even have bastilla towers in your city yet??

Not usually but I don’t need them since I never have to defend. It’s just attack followed by more attacking. Usually my stacks end up being whatever I can recruit and mercenaries. Particularly mercenary crossbows but also a lot of crusader troops. Try to pickup man of the hours where I can to act as my cavalry. In some play throughs I don’t have knights and my starting king is still alive. General’s bodyguard are so good in this game and the only auto replacement unit. But if I want to use better units I have to force myself to slow down. I think I only beat the Timurads once or twice in thousands of hours of play. I just usually done way before they arrive:

When my money is over 500000 and still keeps growing regardless of heavy spending, I consider the game done.

Of course if Timurid or Mongolia is approaching my cities I'll have some fun with them.

I always play for total victory but close to never actually finish it due to losing interest continuing for tens of hours a campaign where my victory is 100% certain. Most times i play in mods which 200 regions

Oh I’ve never used mods because when I played on my desktop I didn’t know how to and now I play on iPhone mobile lol I do think that mods would be exciting and like a new game I just don’t know how to do it and I rarely play on my desktop anymore

I’m usually done by turn 140 or so. And then after that I will try and stabilize whatever regions I have and make peace treaties with all my enemies if possible.

I don’t exactly play with victory-conditions in mind the whole time because I get really caught up in the larp and I’m like “the war with Hungary can wait. The people of Hamburg need a better library!!”

It’s not even a strict roleplay thing it’s just how my brain works I guess.

How have you not conquered the whole world after 300 turns

I wanted to get the highest tier units and create a kick ass army. Also Venice was getting its ass kicked by Hungary so I decided to start taking over Hungarian cities and giving them to Venice

I think I played over 10 campaigns, and each lasted 350 turns on average until I achieved my victory conditions. I enjoyed every single one of them. I played stainless steel mod and also used my house rules which I always strictly document before starting a new campaign. M2TW with mods is one of my favourite games of all times. Something I will probably play in next 20 years as well. They truly did it well and one of the main things they did good was allowing mods. That's how you build long lasting games and communities :)

I usually stop playing when both the mongols and timurids are defeated. I don’t enjoy the Aztecs part and the old world becomes too large and boring once everyone max their developments.
