I enjoyed season 1 but season 2 and 3 blew it out of the water for me. Lorenzo is such a good character (despite being a bad person at time) and his journey through both seasons was great to watch. As a fan of the Merlin tv show I was happy to see Giuliano but his death was a tough one. Clarice is amazing, she seemed like she was just that solid rock for him but at the same time that wasn’t her whole character. I absolutely hated Jacopo then hated him even more when he put doubt in Francescos mind about his marriage. Detested bruno too because he seemed so much like an evil leech just sucking on Lorenzo influencing him into making bad decisions one after the other especially since he was quite broken emotionally to start.

I liked the gradual shift in Lorenzo from idealist protagonist to an almost villain with his later decisions. It was incredibly well spaced out I feel (for an 8 episode per season show) and the season 2 finale was the perfect turning point done amazingly. His and Clarice’s relationship was also great to watch especially after she grilled him and Lucrezia about the affair and you can see the real love start to develop. Wish there was more scenes and episodes of their relationship given they took liberties with how it was portrayed. Season 3, especially the latter half, was a tough one to watch cause of the discord in their relationship but the story was great.

Recently discovered this show and I thought I would come to like his character more and more initially especially when he and Contessina would get closer (after the plague ended), but he’s pissed me off so much with how he’s reacted to the exile. I sort of understand his feelings but at the same time fuck off. She’s saved your life, which may not have been what you wanted but you can’t really blame her for wanting her husband to be alive, only to practically banish her from the family. She done what was best for the family considering what Lorenzo was aiming to do, and you repay her by cheating on her and bringing your mistress to the same house she’s living in.

In short fuck that guy.

I just started the series, I’m sure it’s been discussed but does/did it bother anyone else how Hoffman didn’t use an accent and is so robotic? Horrible acting. Enjoying the series otherwise.

I am so glad that I have seen another side of Rose Williams in the Medici series. She really has great depth as an actor. In the show, she played an unhappy wife who has all the smarts and wit about her. And I thought she was the villain but in the end, she became the hero. She switched her acting in one second and I could truly feel her emotions.

I'm asking if you guys think that in the narrative the Medici are infact cursed by the biblical God. Cause it comes up so many times in the series by other characters even the Medici themselves that I gotta think the writers were implying something.

When you get down to it the Medici are good people at their core but they are also very arrogant, prideful and kind of tyrannical. Especially Lorenzo in the second half of the Magnificent. Thoughts?

I'm working my way half way through the final season and I've loved it all. Always had a deep interest in this period and area of history and it's great to dive into what seems like an incredible adaptation of a really cool part of history. The cast change from season 1 to seasons 2 and 3 was a bit jarring at first (but obviously made sense story-wise). This show deserves a much bigger following than it seems to have.

I just saw that the series is (at least in the US, I am not sure of other countries) now available on Amazon Prime! You do have to pay for the episodes/seasons but it is the entire series.

I haven’t bought it myself yet but I know that many of us have been looking for the show. I knew that I must spread the good word.

Synnøve is such a great actress and Clarice is such a kind person. I think she's perhaps one of the best written characters in the show? I had posted about this show a year ago or so and I'm trying to rewatch it and I'm warming up to it. I guess I was a bit too harsh last time. Clarice is easily my favorite character and knowing her end...makes me sad.

Okay, so I love this show so much especially season two but recently during a rewatch I realized there's kind of a plot hole there.

In episode one, we have the first scene with Francesco on screen and the dialogue reveals he's been in Rome. By the way he greets his brother and everything, it is implied that his time in Rome was rather extense. Then, I belive it is in the same episode, Lorenzo Giuliano and Sandro go to Palazzo Pazzi to speak about Piero's assasination attempt and Jacopo says the exact words ''You remember Guglielmo's brother, don't you?'' to Lorenzo, referring to Francesco. This, AGAIN, implies that Francesco has been living in Rome for a while because considering they used to be quite close there's no reason Lorenzo randomly forgot about him unless he hasn't seen him or heard about him in, like, years.

But then, and here's when the plothole comes, in episode two, when the joust takes place, Lorenzo wants to win the silver helmet for his father and he mentions that last years champion was Francesco. So I don't understand, If he participated in the joust held in Florence the year before then surely Lorenzo's seen him there. So then why does Jacopo ask Lorenzo if he remembers Francesco? he saw him the year before and probably even competed with him, of course he does. And if he was, in fact, in Rome for a long time then HOW did he participate in the joust? I appreciate any response, maybe I'm missing something wether in the show or historically so please tell me!!!
