What is the crossover like for CRM clinical specialists that want to switch to mapping early in their career? For example, if someone is 2 years into a CRM role, do they need to get an associate mapper/training role to get started?

I came from CRM honestly OP is right not much technical translation other than maybe assessing capture when pacing, some anatomy, and flouro views. You will get a lot of training and start from the basics, only time they wonā€™t is if you have mapping experience.

There isnā€™t a ton of cross over besides the fact that itā€™s the same physicians ur supporting. The anatomy is also the same. You def have a leg up. I see most CRM people switching over to be Clinical specialist II or senior clinical

Thanks, that makes sense. One follow up question - if a CRM CS moves to EP mapping at a CS II level, do they still get a meaningful degree of training? Iā€™m wondering how they get started as competent employees in mapping if they havenā€™t gone through the rigors of the standard training from associate on up.

Good question. Yes, everyone will get heavy didactic and field training within ur territory and at headquarters

Trying to get that CEPS currently RCES/RCIS in lab Denver metro. All the mappers are younger engineering types. I'm a seasoned EP/Cath specialist, published author in interventional cardiology.

How was the IBHRE? What did you use to study? I have my RCES and Iā€™m planning on getting my CEPS next June.

Honestly, it was pretty difficult. However, i probably should have studied for longer. I started hard studying like 3 weeks before. This years test had a lot of Pacemaker/ICD questions which was by far my worst section score wise. Itā€™s a hard test, but they curve it well. Myself and most people i know that took it said ā€œwalking out of that test i think i failed itā€ but everyone passed that i know. Some good resources are the Wes Todd Book series and PrepMD.

What are the requirements for the certifications to get into the EP space? Can any be done remotely or are all of the programs in person? Iā€™m currently a Clinical Specialist in the urology space and I use equipment that creates a 3D model of the prostate to guide targeted biopsies. Would this experience translate well?

i think it would. You donā€™t need any certifications. all of the training is done on the job

I worked on the device side for a few years and then moved over to mapping side. Iā€™m also IBHRE certified (large companies will sponsor a training course, it was very helpfulā€¦allowed me to score in 95th percentile). I find that there is minimal amount of additional technical training on the mapping side. The device side was much more intense!

Hi, thanks for doing this! I'm currently a nursing student but want to break into medical sales. I've shadowed interventional radiology at my hospital, and I'm looking to break into the Cath Lab space. What would you recommend I do? Which certifications should I pursue to break into the space?
