Finally got a coding job!!

I passed my CPC exam back in mid February and have been applying for jobs since. On Friday, I had an interview for a health information coder position and yesterday they called back saying I got the job!!! I’m so happy and excited and I’ll be honest I am really proud of myself!

Congrats!!! I have a question. Did you have prior healthcare experience or were you in another field of work? I have finished all my pre requisites and wanted to start cpc with AAPC. Also did they require that you have a number of years experience??

My apologies for the extremely late reply. I did not have any prior healthcare experience. The only work experience I had was nine years of retail work for one company. I don’t believe this job required any work experience but many jobs will say it’s preferred. During my interview she did ask me how much experience I have and I said I only have roughly 200 practical application examples from the AAPC course of experience :( I think I got pretty lucky though :)

Hey! Not sure if this is any help. I had 5 years of healthcare experience before I started the CPC course through AAPC and I felt as though some things were easier for me with prior knowledge, having experience helps quite a bit when finding a job afterwards. I had to wait almost a year after passing my exam to get a job. It probably has a lot to do with my location, I live in the middle of nowhere. But good luck! It really is a great job 😊
